I was at my LCS today when I was suddenly seized by a bizarre urge to check their X-Men boxes to see if they happened to have any of the rare Pressman variants. I don't know why this idea popped into my head, as I don't collect either X-Men or variants, but I decided to check it out. Sure enough: This gold edition came inside some copies of the X-Men board game Pressman made in 1992. I think it's worth a fair chunk of change. Weird, right?

The owner of my lcs told me about an estate sale he had been contracted to price the books for last weekend, and I got a pretty good haul. If I'd have gotten there earlier, I really could have scored, but I went to another one in error first. Still, I found these goodies; Amazing Spider-Man- 54 FN 56 VF/NM 63 VF Annual 3 FN Batman- 164 VG+ 166 VG/FN Captain America- 108 VF+ 110 VF Daredevil- 20 VG/FN Journey Into Mystery (Thor)- 106 VF Strange Tales- 168 FN Superman Vol.1- 155 FN 164 FN 187 FN+ 188 FN 189 VF Uncanny X-Men- 114 FN 124 FN+ 124 FN 132 VG/FN 137 VF Action Comics- 290 FN 315 VG/FN 316 FN 333 VG+ 338 FN- 339 VF 341 VF They weren't dirt cheap, but they were well under what they could have sold for. I also managed to get a bunch of Silver Age books in lesser condition for $2/ea.- Adventure Comics 327, 331, 333- Batman 134, 176- Justice League Of America 30, 33, 38 & 182-202 - Superman 136, 167, 178, 197 - Action Comics 259, 280, 277, 291, 335 & Uncanny X-Men 213-221 in VF/NM. I've already put them all up and didn't take pictures, though. I'll remember to next time.

I was at a local show on Sunday and I was shocked to see Legends#1 going for 35 dollars. It seems that a movie is being made and it is skyrocketing in price. I keep waiting for this to happen with Civil War. I am VERY ready to get rid of those books. Good news. It's already starting. There is a #1 7.0 raw at $37.00 now in the mycomicshop.com auction. If you've got a nice copy, you should consign it to them for next month's auction.

This is an important year for me regarding my comic collection. I had to sell so many of my favorite books in 2014 in order to survive, that I lost the enthusiasm I previously had about reading and collecting. Didn't slow down my new purchases or cheap back issue purchases, though. Only the reading part. So..... 1) Replace ASM 2-99, 101,102,122 & 129, Hulk 180-182 & 271, FF 44-51, Thor(JIM) 85, 100, 107-112, UXM 94-142 & Giant Size 1, and some others I don't remember now. 2) Catch up reading all the current titles that I've continued to buy each week despite my lack of motivation. 3) Read the shitload of cheap back issues I bought through the year to compensate for what I sold. 4) Stop adding issues to my want list until I do some of the above. 5) Spend more time on these boards with the passionate collectors as opposed to the place with a large lunatic contingent. 6) Continue to look for the positive aspects of the comics I've always loved and attempt to spread it around. 7) Put myself in a position to buy some Grail books in 2016.

I've never known what it's like to have too many comics to read. My last big haul was about 30 books and I finished over the course of a week. I wonder how many he has read more than once or if he keeps even the ones he doesn't like. It's really kind of easy to get in that situation. When I got back into comics a few years ago, I was devouring them one after another. When I got low, I would order some more or pick some up from my lcs. But there came a point where money was too tight to buy any, and I ran out of comics to read. I settled for re-reading some of my small collection until I had spending money again, and the next time I went to my lcs, I made a deal with the owner to buy 2 boxes of the $1 comics for $50/box, and I got to fill the boxes with my own picks. I ended up with some titles I would've never tried otherwise, and I began collecting back issues from those titles, in addition to the new comics every week and titles I was already collecting. I was buying pretty heavily for a time because I didn't want to run out again, and eventually I got to a point where I have a huge backlog. It didn't take long, either, and I still buy stuff that looks interesting to me on a regular basis. I feel like one of these days I'll catch up, and I don't have to worry about running out now. I just try not to dwell on the fact that reading them all will be a massive undertaking. It's better than not having anything new to read.

I thought the Editor's notes were great. When I came back into the hobby in 2010 after 25 years, I ordered lots of my back issues based on notes in the back issues I was reading at the time. If something was referenced that I was curious about, I jotted it down and ordered with my next mycomicshop.com purchase. A few books still use them. Amazing Spider-Man does, and Mighty Avengers too. I think it all depends on the writer's reverence of the history of what they're working on. Some of them do care about that stuff and don't take themselves too seriously.

Well since I own Fantastic Four #66 and Iron Man #55, I'm not sure what else I would want. Hmmm ... Maybe Thor 165 if you don't already have it? I would have to say Amazing Fantasy 15 is the comic I would like to buy the most. I will eventually. But there will always be something else I want.

My read pile is out of control and growing, but I have every intention of reading them. For months now, I've not been able to really get comfortable enough to engage in heavy duty reading like I used to do, and I've fallen way behind. I hope it's just a phase because I'm becoming frustrated by it. I certainly still look forward to Wednesday as much as ever. I won't feel good about reading my back issues until I catch up with the currents. I noticed that shaxper mentioned that he reads full runs, and I've been moving that direction, too. It's not something I used to do. I could pick up a few issues from anywhere in a run and read them, but now I want the full story, and the further back I go just adds more things I also want to read. So far, the only comics I bought but didn't read were the first 10 issues of Plastic Man from a few years ago. I hated the first one and couldn't stand keeping them unread in my boxes, so I sold them quickly.

First, dcindexer, that is awesome. One of the prerequisites for my next house will be a large area that I can covert to storage/display for my collection, that will look nice and provide easy access. Just waiting for the money to get here so I can start. Anyway, here are my better runs. I've got a bunch of shorter ones too that I won't list:
Avengers & New Avengers - All issues of all volumes Avengers West Coast Amazing Spider Man 103-700 (had them all until February, but had cash emergency. still have some stragglers below 100.) Black Panther 1998 & 2005 Deadpool All issues Defenders Exiles & New Exiles Fantastic Four 100-current Incredible Hulk 102-current Marvel Team Up - All issues Guardians Of The Galaxy - All issues & Marvel Presents 3-10 Spectacular Spider-Man Vol 1 Sensational She Hulk Silver Surfer(1987) missing 12 issues Peter Parker Spider-Man Spider-Man (1990) Uncanny X-Men 143-current (94-142 were victims of my money crisis) Web Of Spider-Man - All issues Wolverine - All issues X-Factor - All issues X-Men/New X-Men/X-Men Legacy - All issues
Lots more new stuff and small runs.
