When the DC Explosion was announced, i saw it as possibly a way into getting to write comics (i had given up drawing them some time ago, but around this time i was getting alot of interest in both my art work and my writing from my HS teachers including getting to take a college level English Comp course). The Implosion shattered that dream, fo' sho'.
My interest in the Marvel Universe probably peaked around this time, so i probably began working on by Grand Marvel Timeline, the precursor to the many chronologies you see around the internet these days. I had ready access to a lot of cheap comics (5 cents apiece from a used bookstore/dry cleaner near my grandmother's house and a large back room of really cheap early Marvels (a full TOS and TTA run for a buck a book!). Last time i saw the thing, it was scores of pages of notes and a time line written out on about 20 those green accounting pages...

Maybe... Action Comics #371 (cover looks very familiar, and both features are not something i would have picked up in scrounging around at the flea market)
Not Brand Eech #12 Superboy #153... wonder why i got this? I remember reading a lot of Superboy from this period.

For October ...
Marvel Tales #18 Metal Men #35 (with some creepy-ass Sekowsky art and some very stupid story)
... and a couple of years later, my grandmother moved to a new apartment building and a corner store had some older comics; multiple copies of Captain America #109, Amazing Adventures #11 and surprisingly, Green Lantern #40. Picked up one copy of each... wish i'd bought all of 'em!

Ostrander's Suicide Squad bounced occasionally on religion: Shrike's finding religion, Father Richard Craemer's doubts and ministering (which transferred to the Spectre series).

I was starting to visit a comic shop regularly (B&R Comix Center in the shadow of the Bevo Mill) and the books were coming out about three weeks sooner than my subscription copies were coming in the mail. They had a very strict "no reading" policy (you weren't allowed to spend more than 5 minutes looking at books) so i bought a copy of X-Men and got the same book in the mail three weeks later. This went on for several months so i ended up having a dual run for a while. Next year i cutup the books for a collage. *sigh* This was probably my last year for subscriptions, since i could get the books sooner.

Up, up and away... Day Twelve - The Wingless Wizard by Jack Kirby From a skeevy looking Golden Age styled Kirby Krook to a sleek modern purple armored baddie leading his own super-team, I love the look of the large helmet, also storage place for his anti-gravity discs. Thanks for the chance to wax villaious over the last 70 years of no-goodniks!! -z
