Allan Brennert wrote several excellent Batman stories, and did he also do the poignant Deadman-Supergirl post-Crisis story, now that I think of it? Harlan Ellison wrote a couple, didn't he? And maybe Stephen King? How about Michael Chabon? Did he write some of the Escapist comic stories? Max Allan Collins, for sure. Mickey Spillane, too, so they say. Back in the day, Ed Hamilton and Gardner Fox, as well as David Vern Reed (nee Levine) had all been well known as sf writers of note before and during their time at DC Comics. Oh, and Robert Louis Stevenson, Emily Bronte, Hawthorne, Stephen Crane and a few others wrote for the Gilberton Company. Brennert also wrote Daredevil 192, the first issue after Miller's first run ended. It was a fantastic issue focusing on Ben Urich and the Kingpin's efforts to buy him off.

Daredevil #234It's the first issue after Born Again, and it's pretty bad. Back during the O'Neil run, this fill in by Gruenwald, Ditko, and Janson would have fit in just fine. Here, it sticks out like a sore thumb. I bought it because I was curious to see how Marvel followed up one of their landmark stories. Don't make the same mistake I did. The Madcap story? I loved that! I'll admit that it probably reads better as a standalone. As the immediate follow up to Miller's second run, going "zany" was just too big of a tonal shift for me. Also, as much as I hate to admit it, Ditko and Janson went together about as well as chocolate and motor oil. They're two of my top five artists ever, but they really don't mesh when you put them together. That being said, Daredevil 235 was considerably better. Ditko was back with Dannies Fingeroth and Bulanadi on the script and inks respectively, and it worked much better this time. The story actually acknowledged the changes made in the Miller run and effectively used Mr. Hyde to drive home Dad's recent ordeals. Bulanadi's inks were also a better compliment to Ditko, as he doesn't overpower the art in the way Janson did.

My new studio/gallery opened to the public this weekend and I managed to sell 6 pieces. The next step is opening an online store and expanding my buyer base. I think there might be something to this whole "working artist" business after all. Great stuff, Gene! Your artwork totally deserves that kind of appreciation! Thank you, Mormel. For as long as I've been doing this, right now is the first time I feel like I'm an artist entirely on my own terms. It feels good.

I wish Danny had his mask so they could have used a stunt double who actually knows kung fu for the fights.

I have three episodes left. I was onboard until episode 6, but it started turning real stupid, real fast after that. Finn Jones' Danny is a weiner who talks like a bad motivational poster. The script sounds like they used the rejected rough drafts from season 2 of Daredevil and just replaced "Nelson and Murdock" with "Rand Enterprises." The few times there is something interesting going on, the budget is so shoestring it undermines the whole thing. Colleen was great, up until she wasn't. This show is a total dud for me.

I need to know: How do you tape shut your comic bags? Personally, I'm a single, horizontal piece right in the center. It's a more efficient use of tape and it's less clumsy when taking comics in and out of the bags. Barbaric.

I finished my Daredevil collection from 168-300 today, minus a few fill in issues I wasn't really interested in. I also grabbed a copy of The Earth Stealers (because Swan) and a random Zelda comic (because Zelda) while I was at it.
