Over at Super Mega Monkey someone in the comments said that the artist Mike Zeck confirmed in a Comics Interview, er, interview that he drew the story as a try out with no initial plans by Marvel for it to be published, if that helps any.

You can purchase them from Steve engelheart himself - I did it recently and he was a pleasure to talk to/buy from. He sells scripts for his published and unpublished works via his website. As with a lot of Captain Victory material, it is unfinished - he only wrote the three scripts for what was to be a five part or six part miniseries.
I enjoyed both the Sterling Gates and Joe Casey attempts as well - both very different attempts to continue/expand the mythos, although I suspect that with a concept/character like Captain Victory there isn't much that can really be done without having Jack Kirby himself behind the material.

So much to digest and eventually respond to but I am at work on my phone at the moment - just wanted to say that, while it might be a bit off topic for this thread - Shaxper, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the follow ups to Captain Victory that have been attempted over the years by other writers - the recent Joe Casey one and the Sterling Gates written one before that (Steve Engelheart wrote three scripts for a series by Topps back in the 90's but they were never published) - they all wrestle with the various themes, imagery and iconography of the original Kirby material in different ways.

The characters on the cover were part of a temporary storyline that was running in the previous 5 issues or so. All I could think of was that the cover was drawn first and they fell behind in producing the issue. Thus the reprint. Ah, that makes sense then - thanks!

This book had a reprint of FF # 101. I'm so glad that Jim Shooter came along and stopped creators sliding in reprints when they missed their deadlines. Oh wow that would be misleading - I don't know much about that era of FF, does that cover actually relate to anything, or is it just completely random? It sure seems like it should have a story attached to it!

Just be aware, DC did hardcover reprint editions of both Spirit World and In the Days of the Mob in recent years, each included additional Kirby material in he collection (such as the material from Amazing WOrld of DC that Rob Allen mentioned). Here are the solicitation write ups for each of the hc (taken from the Lonestar listings) Spirit World hc 2011 $39.99 In the Days of the Mob 2013 DC $39.99 -M A quick eBay search reveals the originals ( without the added material) for about 15 , without shipping. I find 39.99 to be pricy for a reprint, but that's just my frugal ways I guess. They're not just reprints though - they contain extra material that was going to be in the second issues as well, so it's a hardcover reprint of the originals plus extra stories, and other stuff I guess.

That's the issue - thanks Farrar! Their is a graphite edition of Caprain Victory as well which includes the script treatment for it - do you know if the CV treatment was ever included in The Jack Kirby Collector as well?

I believe the Silver Star treatment was included in an issue of The Jack Kirby collector as well - not sure which issue but can have a look later.

I have all of the Pacific Comics Silver Star and Captain Victory's, all of the Topps Comics Kirbyverse stuff and all of the Dynamite Kirby Genesis material, plus the more recent Joe Casey written reboot/relaunch/whatever of Captain Victory. I also have the Lisa Kirby written Galactic Bounty Hunters. I don't have nay of Jack Kirby's DC stuff or the return to Marvel stuff, although I am very much considering it. I've also purchased and am waiting on scripts from the unpublished Captain Victory comic that Steve Engleheart was working on for Topps that was ultimately never published (Steve Engleheart seems to be a great guy, too, it was a pleasure buying from him). I'm tempted to pick up the adaptation/completion of Galaxy Green that was done in France as well (I've painstakingly translated french comics before, when I was tracking down comics related to Filmation's Blackstar cartoon series). I don't have the graphite editions of Silver Star and Captain Victory, yet, still thinking about getting them as they have the original movie treatments in them as well.
What can I say, I went on a Kirby binge recently which started out based around Captain Victory and expanded to include the Kirbyverse attempts! Not sure about doing a review thread though, as I don't know if I would be able to do such a thread justice...

I haven't seen anything that suggested Kirby wanted to expand 'The Next Breed' into an umbrella/family of books, but I am no expert. I think it's just intended as a Tagline though, in this context. Captain Victory from Pacific Comics always had 'In Defence of our Galaxy' above the title in a similar manner.

Yeah the story of Eastman drawing her based on his girlfriend was one that I had heard in regards to the situation as well, but it seems that Laird's interpretation is the one that ended up gaining more traction. I had the old First Comics collected and colourised versions of some of the early Mirage issues and April's skin tone was more light/'white' there but I don't know if they had any official input on the colouring choices

April's ethnicity in the Mirage stories is... a little complicated... I'm not an expert but Laird has stated that she wasn't intended to be black, however maybe Eastman had other ideas (his take on her might have been based on a girlfriend he had at the time, I believe) - is she depicted as being darker skinned in the coloured reprints that you are reading?
There has been discussion about April's intended racial background before - I am replying on my phone so can't really link to anything at the moment, but if you google it you should be able to find some more information. There has been a few different things said about it.
That said, 'white washing' that did occur in the cartoon was the change of Baxter Stockman into a white guy.

Just a quick note to apologise for the lack of updates and suddenly dropping off the radar. I am currently moving house, plus looking for another job, plus getting married next month, and the house we are looking at will need at least six months of serious DIY work (new floors throughout, new extension roof, knocking down walls...) well sometimes I get a bit distracted! Wow, no wonder you haven't had time to update - sounds like you have a lot on your plate!

Makes me wonder, if it doesn't already exist, just how Kirby would have done with Wonder Woman. Kirby depicted Wonder Woman in the Super Powers series': And there are some concept work that he did for a Wonder Woman cartoon series that never eventuated that can be found online as well, but as far as I know there isn't any major works that Kirby did involving WW. EDIT: foxley beat me to it! I had this issue as a kid and I really wish Kirby had drawn the inside of the issue as well (it involves Brainiac mind-controlling the Amazons and making them attack Man's World) - unnatural posing and anatomy aside, I think that a Kirby version of Wonder Woman and the Silver Age Amazons could have been amazing to see.

For more on the Topps Kirbyverse - I just found out that through Steve Englehart's website you can purchase the scripts for 3 issues of the Captain Victory series that he was going to do for Topps, before the Kirbyverse collapsed.
