Farrar (but thanks to pinkfloydsound17 for inadvertently answering a question I asked in the "ask a question" thread over two years ago: so that's where the (in my opinion inferior to the original(s)) "Enemy Ace" logo used on the Showcase Presents collection originated!)

Weird Western Tales #53, from March, 1979: Scalphunter vs. Abraham Lincoln! {Spoiler}Just like old times! This one satisfies the current topic as well as last week's! Of course, I've been on a new secret cover criteria challenge, and with this entry, I'm down to no more than 12 covers remaining in my little project.

Eclipso just had to be represented in this contest! I like being able to use a new moon, rather than the full moon many are likely to be using this week: {'the count'} Now there are no more than 13 covers left in my secret personal cover challenge Fun Fact from your Forum Selenophile: A common movie blunder is to show the full moon at the horizon during a scene that takes place late at night. The full moon only appears at the horizon at around dusk or dawn.

Swamp Thing and one of the Promethean Giants drifting somewhere before the Source Wall, on the cover of Swamp Thing #62 (1987): Kirby's original look at this big green guy (New Gods #5): {Spoiler}{'The count'} There are now a maximum of 14 covers left in my secret personal cover challenge. I really thought I was going to have to sit this one out, but I managed to find a couple of different options, of which this is definitely the best!

berkley I couldn't participate this time around, but I'm quite fond of this era of Marvels, particularly the "Still Only 25 cents" phase. Reviewing so many of these, though, highlights one reason why cover dialog fell out of favor. So often it seems like an obligatory norm, not something that adds to the appeal. Captain America's shout-out to literally no one, Conan's boring royal proclamation, Iron Man's reference to an off-panel danger, Warlock's unconvincing alarm, the Guardians' threat-hyping...In contrast, the silent covers, or to a lesser degree, those that rely on blurbs alone, seem much more effective. I think that by this time, readers didn't need to be told the specific nature of the threats, especially when they were familiar and routine ("We must stop this menace or the world will die!" "If we fight, someone else will die!" "I'm trapped and I can't escape!" "I must fight alone!" *yawn*)

Not literally a puppet, but most of these covers aren't to be interpreted literally, anyway. But hey, we've got Catwoman dangling a tiny Nemesis suspended from her hand in a puppeteer pose, so...close enough? {count} There are now a maximum of 16 covers remaining in my secret personal classic cover contest challenge.

In a conflict between one of my favorite comics and one of my favorite covers (which happens to be by my favorite comics artist), I'm going for the latter: brianf

Hey, I try to be forgiving of artists' individual idiosyncrasies but when your habitual "high heel" postures lead you into specifically drawing a woman walking by burying her toes straight down into the sand on a beach, wouldn't you think to yourself, "Hmm, maybe this staging is just not gonna work"? I mean, you just can't ignore that as a viewer, can you? That's not tip-toe, that's just poking post-holes step by step. Even if you've never personally walked barefoot on a beach, you just gotta feel in your bones that this ain't right!

{the count}There are now a maximum of 20 covers left in my secret personal cover contest challenge. Last time around, it was 16, but this topic forced me into drafting my "backup team", which means I've got a few additional covers I'm going to have to use to complete this project under the newly-modified rules.
