What is a "cheesecake thread"? From the freedictionary.com... cheese•cakeInformal a. Images, especially photographs, of sexually attractive, scantily attired women. b. The women depicted in such images. Thank you Confessor. But it seems that the blondes in comic books are the bombshells, the redheads are "wish fulfillment" and the brunettes and ones with black hair are the serious women. It was bound to happen here! LOL!

Jimmy Olsen[/quote]
Seriously? I thought he was a weirdly drawn Archie or Richie Rich.

Oh, for goodness' sake, this has become a cheesecake thread! That will not do. With apologies to adamwarlock2099, allow me to present the ultimate Red Head: What is a "cheesecake thread"?

I need help! I am trying to find as many redheaded super heroes and villains...comic book characters in general, actually, that have red hair. I just found Commander Winter (who is completely awesome and I totally need more info on her!) but I am looking for more! Can ya'll tell me your favorite redhead and why?

When I came across Wonder Woman, I was 6 and it was the television show. Later on, I picked it up and started reading the comics I was about 11 or 12. This post has totally destroyed my innocent love of Wonder Woman! That being said, she is a stand alone character and even if you don't know the backstory of the creator, she is a fascinating read. She exudes an air of romance and authority, strength and femininity that draws in any kind of reader regardless of the Age you read.

Silver Swan. She had a decent background story but was just white noise inside Wonder Woman's world.

It's that whole aggravating trend of having super-heroes interacting almost exclusively with other heroes (and villains) that helped alienate me from mainstream comics a couple of decades ago. My favorite series in the years since then (e.g., Starman, Sandman Mystery Theatre, Ostrander's Spectre) have all featured strong supporting casts of non-super folk. Sorry to hear it's still going on. Cei-U! I summon the pet peeve! My guess is that if a superhero is good...more are better. But I agree supers or metas or whatever we're calling them need a life outside of crime busting. They need this normal people in their lives so they can still be somewhat human and relatable.

"Nothing! To a genius like me your insipid patriotic ramblings are laughable! I sneer at you all!" Why can't people talk like this in real life? I DO talk like this in real life!

As someone who can run, jump, climb trees, and shoot an AK-47 in heels (all of which I have done)...form doesn't necessarily need to battle function. Por que no los dos? Granted, I do have issues with bikini armor (as it is strictly form and has absolutely ZERO function) heels and skimpy skirts don't necessarily negate function. The most successful pirate in history (a Chinese WOMAN) would wear skimpy clothes while she was fighting men and then at the most opportune moment would flash her breasts, distract her male opponents, and then skewer them on her rapier. So even mini-skirts can have function as well.
But costumes in general are more about status and beliefs than anything else. Captain America in his red, white and blue symbolize his American ideals as an example. Who wants to name a few more? Costumes are form fitting to alleviate drag in flight or they can intimidate opponents in a fight by defining six pack abs. They are almost NEVER used for protection.

If I had to find something to pick apart in the movie, it was that there wasn't enough of Gamora being the "most dangerous woman in the universe." Specifically, I thought that when she and Nebula were about to fight, we would be seeing her cut loose, but it didn't happen. Maybe it did happen in a deleted scene. Rocket was an intriguing test case because everyone thought he and Groot would be the hardest sells. But with enough marketing and appealing to everyone's silly sides, he pretty much became the breakout before the movie even came out. Rocket and Groot = Jar Jar Binks It is all about marketing in these types of movies. You can inundate the market with the dolls and posters and only show the good clips in the trailers and people will think they love the character before they even see the movie. Subliminal messaging at its finest. (And NO...I do not equate Rocket and Groot to Jar Jar Binks who needs to die a fiery death in the heart of a dying star.) As for Gamora...she is supposed to be the deadliest woman in the galaxy? Okay, yes, she seems like she can kick butt...but there is nothing off the charts special about her except her overly large ego and cliche attitude...tragic backstory aside. It always feels like she is trying to prove she is better than men as opposed to being better than everyone else regardless of gender. For Sif...yes, Yes, YES!!! Sif strikes me as a character who couldn't care less about gender. She is awesome for the sake of awesome. She makes a great partner for the Three and a remarkably cool and collected contrast to the over-the-top Thor.
