I guess people voted for this. As we get to the top three I'm guessing Luis Garcia Lopez won't crack the list. His body of work just isn't strong enough. It's a a shame, because he is one of the few artists that I personally feel can draw anything and make it look perfect pretty much. Along with old-school Neal Adams and John Buscema. Byrne is great, but he shouldn't be above Neal Adams. For the top three I'm guessing Kirby is number one and rightfully so. Ditko takes up another spot. Can't think of the other one. Hal Foster if he counts maybe. Perhaps Alex Raymond? Doubt it though. Oh and I'm guessing George Perez isn't on the list at all which is shocking. I can't believe that. 50-4140-3130-2120-1615-1110-76-4

Interesting list. I'm wondering who the top three will be, there's some notable absences so far. Of course I never look at a list as an opportunity to complain because my favorites were snubbed, just wondering if Crumb will make it, or Beto, seems unlikely at this point.
The only one on the list I give a flat out NO to is Todd McFarlane. I just don't think he's a good illustrator, at all. I would have said Jim Lee too, but they showed a wealth of growth and versatility in his work. It may not be my cup of tea, but they've convinced me he deserves a spot on there. Or at the very least isn't completely out of place.
#6 though? I won't even get into nit picking about WHERE on the list everyone is at. The fact that the likes of Jaime Hernandez, Carl Barks, Will Eisner, and Wallace Wood made the cut at all is enough for me.
I've noticed only one notable Euro comics illustrator on the list (But I just skimmed the thing), there are so many out there putting out fantastic work.

I went a bit differently this go-round, and other than putting Simonson at #1, I deliberately went with artists that most CBR followers don't know. I had Enki Bilal and George Bess on my top ten artists to represent Euro-comics (and Brian Bolland and Mick McMahon, but they're British, which is a whole other beast as far comics), but left Moebius off. I also voted for Jaime, but he's way too far down on the list for my tastes, which I guess is to be expected considering that most of the CBR traffic is based on superhero comics.

Perez has got to be in the top 3, then.
I would say no on both McFarlane and Lee. Lee's work sometimes approaches decent, but he'd be nowhere near my list of top artists.
Sometimes I forget that JRJR used to be pretty good.

I wonder many times on list complied by a websites' constituents, how many subconsciously vote for the popular people. Like how Lee and Byrne are as high as they are, yet good artists like Banks, Toth, Sale, and Coipel, are in the bottom rung of the list. I don't think people will, or can, be honest about rating an artists on their actual art not some bias to their popularity or cultural impact. If McFarlane (who I have nothing against) is even on the list (going by previous post, I didn't look through them all) and say Moebius isn't, it's clear the list is flawed in examining the art it it's craft, anatomy and in it's ability to make sense sequentially; which is after all what makes a good artist in the medium of comic books and comic strips.

Jim Lee above Steve Ditko... Joe Kubert at #40? Sure. I didn't know that so many crackheads had access to computers.
Perez and Kirby have to be in the top three, but I am blanking on who the third is.

Perez and Kirby have to be in the top three, but I am blanking on who the third is. The top three ended up being (in order): Perez, Frank Quitely, and Kirby. Given these types of lists are based on user votes, I don't really get too worked up about them. It's sort of like polling listeners of a radio station on the best musical acts of all time and then getting upset when Taylor Swift or N'Sync show up in the top ten. Yeah, I'd differ with those results, but they did sell a ton of recordings and people most likely to vote are also the same ones who probably grew up on them.

I like Frank Quitely a lot. Cabbage-Patch Superman is in my Top Five Superman Stories list. But I still think he's listed way high.
We should all take a little comfort that "flavor of the week" artists haven't kept Jack Kirby down.
But Jim Lee over Steve Ditko? No. I liked the art on "Hush" a lot in spite of the idiotic story, so I don't hate Jim Lee. But no.

Frank Quietly is the 2nd best comic book artist of all time? That is just crazy to me. Really not a fan of his work. I don't think I would put him in the top 50.

I can live with that top three...but Joe Kubert at 40???
That's just criminal negligence.
