Ha! Ha! Ha!!! To me, that's far more the "real" Star Wars than all that nonsense about midichlorians or Yuuzhan Badoingbadoing!

The Yuuzhan whatevers were perfectly acceptable Borg pastiches, created at a time when Star Trek was Borg-crazy. I didn't love it, but it was nice to have a new enemy instead of random dribblets of the Empire popping up again and again.

it was nice to have a new enemy instead of random dribblets of the Empire popping up again and again. See, that was my issue with it; the villains in the Star Wars saga are the Empire (or offshoots like the First Order). If you start bringing in new villains, it becomes the Adventures of Luke Skywalker.

I don't think that's true.. new threats can appear and still have it be Star Wars... most heroes that last for multiple stories do have multiple villains. Luke was barely a factor at that point in the EU IIRC, it was much more about the Solo twins.

If you start bringing in new villains, it becomes the Adventures of Luke Skywalker. Which, actually, was a sub-title that was commonly used by Lucasfilm for official Star Wars stories in the late '70s. Forgetting later developments with the prequels and sequel trilogy for a moment, I don't think it's a bad sub-title for the original trilogy. But my point is that SW being little more than the "Adventures of Luke Skywalker" is no bad thing and pretty much how George Lucas himself viewed the franchise, at least initially. As for the Yuuzhan Vong, I have no issue with them per se, but I do tend to dislike the notion of alien invaders from outside the galaxy in general when it comes to SW. It just always feels a little bit too "Star Trek" for my tastes.

I'm so going to get this issue. Can we expect a review? You know, I was thinking about this today actually. Thing is, the title of this thread is "Star Wars at Marvel: 1977-1987", and clearly this new comic falls outside of that time frame. But that said, it is a continuation of the original 77-86 series, or at least is set in the same continuity, which obviously the other Marvel SW comics published since 2015 aren't. So, I kinda feel as if I should maybe review it. However, it's not actually a classic comic is it? And vintage comics are the focus of this forum. I mean, if this special #108 issue turned into a new ongoing series (let's just say), I think that would definitely dilute the focus of this thread and, in fact, be entirely inappropriate for this forum. To be honest, I'd be interested in what the regular contributors and viewers of this thread think on this matter. Do you think I should review this new issue #108?

Confessor: sure, why not? I see #108 the way I look at 1990's The Godfather Part III; its not part of the original productions, and at the time of The Godfather Part II (1974), there were no plans for another film, but III was a part--perhaps a distant, "in spirit only" part of the series. That is the way I would see Star Wars #108.

Absolutely. In spirit it's another issue of the original series

That's exactly it though - Star Wars isn't multiple stories. It's one story, in episodes. It's an entire universe of stories. We just haven't seen most of them. And maybe we won't. And that's probably okay.
