On this subject just select a random Dave Stevens cover and I'm sure it would be quite apropos to the subject.

Excessive cheesecake actually turns me off of books. I avoided Tarot for years because of the covers, and I still don't buy Dynamite's Barsoom books, despite being a John Carter fan. Seems to me the way to do sexy covers for a super-hero book is the above approach, or what they're doing with Captain Marvel - show me a strong woman who can take care of herself and who looks good. Of course, humor works too. I started buying XXXenophile because of covers like this - It depends for me on what I am looking for in the contents of the book. I do think that a comic can have a hot and sexy cover, like the Storm or Medusa cover and not derail the contents. Did that issue of X-Men get me interested in the book? No. Do I still like the cover? Yes. I have no problem with sexy on covers which contents may not have a thing to do with the cover. If I want sex IN the contents I buy adult comics like Alexis. I know some artist are more known for drawing sexy women better than others but I don't accuse Terry/Rachel Dodson, Adam Hughes, Salvador Larroca, Frank Cho or Bud Root for making a comic excessively or intentionally sexy in it's contents cause they know how to draw curvy gals. For instance, despite what Lady Death parades around in, I've seen less sexual content in her comics than I've seen in Marvel of DCs mainstream titles.

Heres one of my favorite Salvador Larocca covers of Storm, that I bought just for the cover even after I stopped reading it cause I didn't like Kory's art. www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=306781

While we're on the subject of sexy comic books, someone from the old CBR Classic Comics forum was kind enough to send me their copy of Wally Wood's "Malice in Wonderland" comic a few years back. I'm so grateful that this nice person did this, but I've forgotten who it was who sent it to me. If it was you, please remind me, so I can say thanks again. If I recall correctly Paul, that was "Ear in the Fireplace." Unfortunately, he doesn't post here, and indeed stopped posting on CBR as well for quite some time. He made some great, and detailed, posts so I remember when the topic of his Malice In Wonderland copy came up. Yes! That's it, Ear in the Fireplace. You are correct. What a shame he doesn't post anymore and never made it over to here. It all started when I mentioned that I'd been trying to track down a copy of Malice in Wonderland for forever in a thread all about our comic book Holy Grails. He was kind enough to say, "oh, I have a copy of that and I don't really need it anymore" and he sent it over to me from the States.

I think Ear in the Fireplace was a fellow Canadian as well. There are a few of us on here and if we extend out to the Commonwealth and our Australian and, of course, British friends, as yourself, it's a good little representation. American comic books are the heart of this forum, and this is fine by me since they dominate my own interest, but it is good that we have a great international flavour here,

Your exuberance for this title has me interested. Searching that title on Lone Star got me this ... www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=497311

No, this is the title I meant (link goes to a NSFW cover image)... www.comics.org/issue/386769/And yes, it is simply called Malice in Wonderland. It's sexy and adult, but it's more like a surreal, Emmanuelle-flavoured take on Lewis Carroll's original, rather than anything really extremely hardcore pornographic (although there is full sex in it). There's a sexy take on Frank L. Baum's The Wizard of Oz as a back up strip too. The black & white Wally Wood artwork in this issue is utterly gorgeous. It was supposed to be the first issue of a 3-part mini-series, but it was the only issue that was ever published, unfortunately.

I have bought comics just for the sexy covers. Not a lot, but if there's a Dave Stevens cover in a 50 cent bin, I'm going to get it. I also bought some of the DC "bombshell" covers when they did that gimmick even though I don't read New 52. Come to think of it, those have something in common - the classic good girl, pin-up art style of the 40's and 50's is what I really like. Some Archie covers have this as well, though I collect Archie stuff anyway.

I'm more likely to NOT buy a cover if it's too 'sexy'. Covers can certainly grab my attention and get me to buy a book (that's their job, after all), but not for that... I like my women real, rather than drawn.

I wish he was here with us. Speaking of of the past, has Kurt Busiek posted here yet ? Or Scott Shaw ?

I honestly can't say I remember buying a comic because I thought the cover was sexy. I can think of one comic I thought had a sexy cover but it was in a series I was already buying anyway. I like Dave Stevens covers but don't really own any.

I think I'm right in saying that someone notified Scott Shaw! about this place, but he hasn't made the journey over here yet. I think the feeling is that folks like Scott and good ol' Lone Ranger from the old CBR Classic Comics Forum might see coming over here as a bit of a conflict of interest, given that they both have strong ties to Jonah and CBR.

I started buying DNAgents with this issue: It's definitely have the 50's/Retro aspects of Cheesecake all over it.
