Never bought a comic because of a sexy cover, nor even considered doing so. While I'm certainly a fan of sex, it's not something I look for outside of my bedroom, and, more often than not, I'm a bit annoyed when an artist emphasizes sexy visuals over content and appropriate characterization.
Too each their own, of course, but I'm also a bit surprised this thread only discusses sexy female covers. What about our female heterosexual and male homosexual viewing audiences?

I always considered this a sexy cover. It made me mad that this scene wasn't in the actual book. JLA # 34

I've definitely looked inside comics because of a sexy cover, but I don't think I've ever bought a comic just for the cover alone no matter how much I liked it or for what reason. Something about the contents would have be the deciding factor.

I had completely forgotten I used to be able to look in a comic before buying it. Must be why I rarely fell for the cool cover trick.
Although I could likely get plenty of interior samples from a quick Google search today, I usually just buy blindly when trying something new out.

Most of the comics I've posted were all back issue purchases (which were bagged and boarded) in my time or new books purchased in Previews through the local shop I was going to at the time. So for me many of my comics were purchased with no access to the contents. I'm sure at some of the more than a dozen shops I had around me when I lived in St Louis I could have asked to look at he contents. But with no internet, no iTunes, YouTube, etc I was already use to buying music, movies and other entertainment based on it's "cover" (radio, TV previews, world of mouth, etc).

Don't judge me, but I did really enjoy Grell's Cosmic Boy 70s outfit when I was 12 or 13. And it wasn't even the 70s anymore! But I bought everything with the Legion anyway so the covers did not make me buy those books. Those male power fantasy bodies are rarely posed to titillate the way the cheesecake ladies are. Here are two exceptions that might make a gay guy pick up a book based on the cover: x

I've never purchased a comic book that I didn't regularly collect because it had a "sexy" cover. If I have the urge to look at pictures of sexy women, I'm not going to do it on the covers of comic books of which I have no interest in reading the inside. That's what the Internet is for (besides this fine forum, of course) However, if given the choice between a regular cover or a "sexy" variant cover, I have on occasion chosen the variant cover because it was something different. For example, I got the Aquaman Bombshell cover with Mera on it rather than the regular cover art, primarily because it was fun and not the usual Aquaman cover. That said, I also picked up the Lego Aquaman cover for issue #36 over the regular version because I thought my daughters would find it cool (which they did), and I also grabbed the Skottie Young "baby" cover for Moon Knight #1 because I liked it better than the regular one (and I only bought that one because my store did not have the Sienkiewicz version, which I would have bought in a heartbeat).

Vampirella always had some sexy (almost nude) covers in the 70's. I can't recall if I ever purchased due to the sexy cover alone, but most of the Vampirella covers sure did catch my eye when displayed on the magazine racks at the local drug store or supermarkets.

Bry, another good example of a sexy cover selling the comic while the contents still remain good. Unfortunately I wasn't alive for the originally magazines as they came out. But based in the collections of Vampirella I have read I would never have been disappointed with the contents if I had bought any of those magazines for their many sexy covers.

Something about this Batman cover that always gave off a sexy vibe...looks as if Batgirl & Catwoman are really going to go at it to see who gets to keep the helpless, unconscious Batman! Also, technically I bought this book based upon the cover, that is if you count the "Tales of the Batman Carmine Infantino HC" which has the reprinted cover inside of the actual book.

I am thinking of picking up an Art of Vampirella hardcover I saw at my local comic shop even though I've never read any of her comics. (although I have become interested in 70s horror comics recently)
