With the onset of Fall, I've started looking back at my goals more carefully to see which ones I can still meet in the next two months: 1) Read a minimum of 500 comics already sitting in my collection that I've yet to readYeah, no way. I have read far less this year than ever before. Been trying to change that recently, but I don't see myself getting anywhere near this number. Maybe 300. 2) Re-read at least 200 books in my collection that are worth re-readingAgain, I read a lot less this year than I expected to. this is possible, but I'll more likely get to around 100. 3) Buy no more than 200 back issues this yearI'm good on that one. I haven't kept track of what I've bought this year, but probably not even a hundred books. 4) Finish reading the Louise Simonson X-Factor runDone 5) Read the complete Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League (no review thread)Might still get to this. I started reading Len Wein's run on the Hulk first. 6) Do a bare minimum of 20 reviews each for my Batman (13 down), Superman (11 down), and Master of Kung Fu (5 down) review threadsAlmost there for Batman and Superman. No doubt I'll make the mark. I've temporarily stopped doing Master of Kung Fu though, especially since my Doug Moench review thread is going to overlap with it in a year or so. 7) Stay up to date with my reviews of the new Magnus Robot Fighter comicsDone. And so is the series 8. Finish restoring my Nick Fury from the Beginning reviews thread from the CBR archives and do a bare minimum of 6 reviews for it.Restored it a long time ago (wow! Was that this year???), but I don't think I've done six reviews yet. Easily can before New Year's. 9. Start a Chronological Doug Moench Review Thread and do a bare minimum of 15 reviews.Did WAY more than that 10. Put a serious dent in my TO READ stack(s)Doing that now. 11. Read more Savage Sword of ConanHaven't felt the urge. I think I've read two issues. Quality stuff, but I haven't been hungering for it. 12. (Time permitting) begin an Avengers in the Bronze age or X-Men from the Beginning Review Thread.Time is NOT permitting. 13. Get my daughter to read at least one comic a month with meMaybe every other month.

Any updates on your goals from January 2015?
I have completed the following runs:

And I placed a sizable dent in Thor from 300-502. Buying around 100 issues.

oh, man. I missed this thread. I am hoping to be able to participate in this for next year. My goals will not be gigantic, though, since I have issues committing to things other than family and work. And I find it hard to commit myself to an entire run of something (unless it is small) because I start getting bored.

I'm slimming down my goals this year, although keeping a few the same: 1. Read at least 1,000 books in 2015. This might change if I decide to pursue a certification in my profession, but for now, I'll go with it. 2. Purchase fewer single issues in 2015. I cut my purchases by over 40% from 2013 to 2014, so a more modest 25% might be possible (that would still be almost 150 fewer books than last year). 3. Finally pull the trigger on buying a Werewolf by Night #32. I have the money for one, but I never seem to be able to make the purchase. 4. Finally read Captain America from start to finish. I made an attempt last year, but got sidetracked just after starting it. No excuses this year, however; I put the entire run together, and I'm going to read it in 2015. 5. Buy some Howard the Duck issues. This may be the last Marvel series that I ever start collecting from scratch, as I have identified all of the series that I have never collected and this is the only one that I am even remotely interested in getting. Let's see: 1. Just passed the 1,000 book mark this past week, the most I've ever read in a year. 2. Bought approximately 435 new floppies this year, after buying 570 last year. Probably will buy fewer than 20 the remainder of the year, so while not quite 150 fewer, I will count this as accomplished. 3. Did not do this, and at this point, I probably won't ever do it. I have a reprint of the story, and I could buy 3-4 Omnibus editions for the cost of this single floppie. 4. Did not attempt this, although I did read the entire original Thor series save for 10 issues in the mid-100's and the last 30 of the run, which I plan to complete before the end of the year. However, I just picked up the first Masterworks with the initial Tales of Suspense stories and am planning on doing a Captain America review thread next year starting from the beginning. 5. Did do this, and I only need about 5 more issues to have the entire series. Haven't started reading them yet, and not sure when I will get into it. 3 out of 5, and I am going to count the Thor series reading as a worthy replacement for the Captain America goal, so let's call it 4/5 with a deliberate choice to forgo the 5th one for practical reasons.

Let's look back at mine...
1. Go to a comic con (has to be done) STILL has yet to be done 2. Hunt down Daredevil issues #158-175. Miller run issues are so darn expensive!
I have most of them, but am missing the #158, 168 and 2 other random issues. 3. Purchase Death of Captain Marvel and read it.
DONE! It was as great and fantastic as I had hoped! 4. Catch up on my reading. Right now, there are probably close to 100 books that I have not read and that needs to be done.
I wouldn't say I have caught up. If anything, I added more that I read as it came in and only now am I getting some time to catch up on backlogged books. 5. Read (and buy) more Suicide Squad. I have the first issue and issues 2 and 3 are on the way from the 80s series. I want more...
Didn't happen sadly...I still only have the first three issues.

Well, let's see how I did or am doing... The most obvious goal I have is to read through the whole of Marvel's Star Wars comic for my review thread So far so good. I'm over half way through the run at the present time and, as long as I stay at my current reading/reviewing rate, I hope to be finished with my review thread by June 2016. ...but I also want to resurrect my old Tintin reviews thread that I began on the old CBR forum, but lost in the re-boot. Yeah, not gotten around to doing this at all. But I'm still thinking that I will resurrect it at some point in the not too distant future. As far as collecting goes, I'd like to maybe complete my collection of The 'Nam, The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones and the Bronze Age Jonah Hex series. I also want to buy more Spider-Man back issues; I've been neglecting my Spider-Man collecting somewhat over the last year or more, but I bought some early 1990s issues a month or so back and I remembered how much I like reading Spider-Man -- he is my favourite superhero, after all. This is quite frustrating. I've bought less than five issues of The 'Nam and The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones combined this year. Must try harder with these series. I've been a little more successful at buying Bronze Age Jonah Hex comics, having picked up maybe 30 issues this year. As for old Spider-Man comics, I've probably bought around 20 or so. So all in all, I've haven't gotten anywhere near buying what I wanted to buy. Still, I've also spent a lot less on comics generally this year and that's partly because a lot of my comic reading time has been taken up with re-reading and writing about Marvel's old Star Wars comics.

My goals were pretty simple and straight forward... My goals are simple this year and taken form hard lessons learned in 2014... 1. Enjoy comics more. 2. Stress about comic related things less. -M I've managed #1 quite well, having read and enjoyed more of what I already owned this year than I have in the last couple of years combined, added some stuff I really liked and got back to enjoying the hobby. #2 is still a struggle at times. I've done fairly well, but there have been moments. It's been a year of re-assessing how I approach comics and comic fandom, or evaluating priorities and how I spend my time with the hobby, to keep the focus on it being something I enjoy rather than something that feels like work or an obligation, having it be a stress reliever and not a stress inducer, and learning how to step away for a time if need be when it does feel like it's moving in the wrong direction. Not quite there yet, but getting there. I have started formulating a few goals for 2016, likely to be a little more specific than the 2015 goals, but still embracing the approach which defined this year for me. -M

I think next year I will still participate but I will read it more organically , rather than do it like homework.

For me: 1) Continue chipping away at finish Iron Man v. 1 2) Get more classic non-superhero books... I got a good pile of Warlord to read... I might try to complete the series (I have about a 1/3). I just got Devil Dinosaur, too which I'm looking forward to. I'm hoping to read the rest of Tintin as well, though that's more a matter of catching them in at the library. 3) Catch up (more) on the to-read pile... I resolve to get my to read pile back into it's Milk Crate by year's end! I probably have 400 comics or so outside said crate (which is down from 500-600 last year). I've cut down the trade pile as well, but still more to go. 4) Do better on review threads... I'm hoping to post reviews of something 2-3 times a week, life willing. I might add more later... this is all I got for now 1) Really good progress here... I a good 30 issues out of the 1st 100 I needed. Total success! 2) I did indeed read Devil Dinosaur (which was good) and a few random western and sci fi issues from ebay. I got a few Warlords, too, though not the whole series yet. I also got to the last couple Tintin's, and even tried Asterix. 3) Progress is being made... but not as much as I hoped. 4) Same... did some reviews, but not as many as I hoped. Not bad overall.. I'll have to start thinking about 2016!

(updated 12-30-15) With the onset of Fall, I've started looking back at my goals more carefully to see which ones I can still meet in the next two months: TWO DAYS LEFT! Let's see how I'm doing... 323 read. 101 read. I haven't kept a running tally, but I'm positive I came in way under 200 books. I probably didn't even buy 100. Still done. Started the review thread and already have 7 reviews under my belt. Not as far along as I expected to be back in January, but I'm psyched I'm doing this and glad I decided to go the review thread route after all. Got 26 done for Batman and 23 done for Superman. Still done. Checking again, I had six reviews done for that thread ages ago. I'd still like to get in one or two more in the next two days. We'll see. Yup. Waaaay ahead on this one. Still doing it. Just finished and reviewed Len Wein's run on The Incredible Hulk. Beginning to realize that my tastes in comics are seasonal, and Conan is a very summer type of reading for me. I missed the boat this year, but maybe next summer. If not then, I'll likely end up selling off the 75 issues I am currently sitting on that remain largely unread Maybe this will be a next year thing, but not likely. [/quote] I was ready to give up on trying to coax my 7 year old into reading a comic with me this month when, out of the blue today, my four year old wanted to read one with me

Just buy a few cool HC's. I want to catch up on some prose this year and my expendable income will primarily go to my car. I think I'll probably read about 300 comics, but I don't have any reading or collecting goals. I'll still keep track of what I'm reading in the 1000 comics thread though. Bought some cool HC's Didn't read any prose Spent a lot on my car Read over 300 comics Focus shifted to mags about halfway through the year. Bought about 60-75 and about to buy some more before the year ends.
