I know it's been said before, but it bugs me every time I visit this thread -- the basic premise of this thread is flawed. It presumes that the majority of comic book covers aren't filled with impossible or goofy situations, when, in fact, the vast majority are. Maybe we should have a thread for comics that don't have impossible or goofy situations on their covers?

I'm not the type of person who takes things too seriously, nor do I get offended easily on forums or on the net. But this is the second or third time this thread has been subtlety insulted. You can use your mod powers to delete it but I will point out 2 things, one- there is a decent amount of traffic in this thread by people that look forward to seeing covers off the beaten path and two- it would smack me as the type of heavy handed censorship that had Shax begin this forum in the first place.

Now, now.
I see the thread as a celebration of goofy and impossible covers. It's celebrating how silly comics are, not mocking it. I can't see any reason why this thread should be a point of contention between any of our illustrious members.

I can never wrap my mind around an Elephant standing as a man. They look more like Hippomen to me.

Hey, hey...no insult intended, icctrombone. It's just an observation. I don't care what thread topics people want to discuss and certainly, in no way (I can't stress this enough) would I ever contemplate deleting or locking this thread. That would definitely be an abuse of power and there's not a single convincing justification that I could come up with to excuse doing that. I'm sorry if you took my comments as an affront to your thread. They were definitely not meant as such. You're a forum regular that I have the utmost respect for. I was just saying out loud that, in my opinion, 99% of the comic covers ever published could qualify for this thread. That's not a reason to do anything drastic...especially when so many folks here are enjoying the covers that folk are posting. Just to be clear, I enjoy checking in on this thread every day too. Anyway, sorry if I offended you, icctrombone. I really didn't mean to.

I can never wrap my mind around an Elephant standing as a man. "Elephantmen" is the catch-call term for the genetically altered animals made by the Mappo company to fight in wars of the future. They were integrated into human society after the ends of the war, but still face incredible prejudice. In fact, "elephantman" has become something of a slur, but not as ubiquitous as "munt", which is the n-word of the Elephantmen universe. That's Hip Flask on the cover, who is a private investigator and a hippo. Ebony is the regularly appearing Elephant character. My favorite, however, is Obdiah Horn, a genetically engineered rhino who has become a captain of industry with dubious methods.
Such a great series.

I agree with the basic premise that ALL of these comics are silly and Impossible, but I attempt to post covers that violates the continuity established by their own settings. Superman having bullets bounce off of him is established in his make believe stories but Superman laying on the ground with a golf tee in his mouth is not consistent with the tone of his adventures. Or maybe it's all the same to some. Either way, it's all in fun.

I include this cover because the show had scenarios and stories that some thought were products of acid trips. Quite a theory for a 70's kids show.
