So I've been giving it thought, and I'm seriously considering getting a table at the local comic show circuit this Spring or Summer. There's a lot I don't know about running a table, but I have enough inventory to fill one, enough hot issues to fill a display, and enough cash to invest in shelving and supplies. If I can enjoy myself while doing it, it will be worth it, regardless of whether or not I turn a nice profit. If it ends up feeling stressful and demanding, it will have been a waste of my time and resources, regardless of whether or not I turn a nice profit.
Has anyone here ever run a dealer table at a small local convention circuit before? Any tips?
And, in other news, I just bought two copies of San Diego Comiccon Comics #2 (1st appearance of Hellboy). I've been thinking about getting one for a long while now, and, seeing that back issues are back on the rise in general, I figure now is the time. Hellboy, as a property, isn't going anywhere and continues to attract new fans.

I love that issue, and not just for the Hellboy story but also for Monkeyman & O'Brien by Art Adams and Frank Miller's Martha Washington.

I'll admit I bought it more for collectibility than personal interest. I love the early Hellboy stuff but sort of lost interest in continuing with it around volume 5. I know I'll return to it one day but, for now, your review thread has allowed me to enjoy it vicariously, and that's been enough for me

If you plan on running a table, it may be worth your time to join the CGC boards, a lot of those members operate tables locally, nationally, and even internationally. I have never ran one, but from what I have read the dollar bins aren't doing terribly great. That was the word out of SDCC anyway. Smaller shows may be different. If you have hot issues you may do well. Possibly pay for your experiment with a single sale.

Bleeding Cool had an article about recent comics hitting $300 today. Wow. I paid $150 for my Albedo #2, and now it's in the four digits? Still, I'll likely never let it go. Irreplaceable. Yeah, I was talking about that with you a while back, maybe on the old forums. I suspect the price was driven up not by Usagi fans, but by "key issue" fans who are hoarding any first they can find. After all the superhero firsts and taken care of, they've expanded. While Fantasy Quarterly #1 isn't worth anything near what Albedo #2 is, it's worth a lot more than the nothing it was worth recently, and is considered a "Bronze Age semi-key." Luckily I got mine for... I forget, not much though. Maybe eight or ten bucks. What I didn't get in time was Love And Rockets #1 (the homemade one). I saw them sitting at $200 on eBay for years, and was just waiting to get around to buying one. Then when I was ready all the sudden they were selling consistently for double that. I ended up eventually finding one for $300, but learned a lesson on waiting. But why did it suddenly double in price? Where is the double demand coming from? Since print runs of the current stuff isn't on the rise, and every other issue is still pretty much worth a dollar, I have to assume the "key issue" hoarders are just drying up the market and bidding up the auctions of the few that are left.

Good deal! Where did you find one for that price? Things From Another World, it says published in 2013 on their site but I emailed them and they said it was an original issue. They informed me that Dark Horse had apparently kept a stock pile of these issues and decided to sell them through TFAW. Your post about snagging a couple got me to take a look and when I found this I just had to check it out.

Yeah, they're way more affordable than Ebay, I'm just sad that I hadn't found them earlier as they had originally had a bunch pre-signed by Mignola that they were selling for 80 bucks.
