It occured to me this morning that the newfound independence of the Classic Comics Forums is an appropriate occasion to give that venerable institution, the CBR Old Farts' Marching Kazoo Band and Chowder Society (Our Motto: "Everything published after 1970 is crap!"), a much needed facelift. Therefore I propose we rename ourselves the Brotherhood of Comics Curmudgeons, adopt the new motto "Comics was better in the olden days!" and open the doors to new members. You do not have to have attended an OFMKBCS meeting (i.e., either an Emerald City dinner or a bullshit session at Casa del Cei-U!) nor do you have to have been alive in the olden days and read those better comics firsthand to join the Brotherhood. You don't even have to be a brother. Sisters are welcome too. (By the way, you don't actually have to hate contemporary comics to join, just love the old stuff too.) Anybody with me? Rob Allen? Dan B?
*crickets*
Aaaaaand another plan to dominate the world bites the dust.
Cei-U! I suck at super-villaining!

I would join but demand to be part of the inner council of OFMKBCS.The ones who believe comic books were always infantile, substandard nonsense and the true artform was the beloved newspaper strips. Now you take your Hal Foster,Milt Caniff and Alex Raymonds-those were the true masters,by gum.Superman was nothing more than Popeye in pajamas.Batman? HA.Dick Tracy didn't need no punky boy wonder to help.By crackey those comic books ruined everything.Everything I tell you.And we inner council members will allways believe it.Eh?Whats that you say?Speak up son I can't hear you

And another thing.Back in the day,the old artists knew how to keep a deadline.Even when they had to trudge miles thru the snow and rain to they would deliver their pages. And speaking of deadlines-When's the Avengers article in Alter Ego coming out?Dang blast it,I thought I would be reading it on my porch in my favorite rocker this summer.Whats the matter sonny?Eh?Speak up consarn it

Not to break up your old fart reminiscing, but artists today are MUCH better at deadlines... it's more notable when a comic is late, since it's rare, and they no longer have meaningless stock stories or reprints ready to go in an emergency, they just wait. You could, naturally, say those fill ins, re-prints, or 're-print with a modern framing sequence to make it a new story' were great, as is fitting for old crumudgeons

But ... but ... but there's the whole thing about not wanting to belong to any group that would have me as a member!

Not to break up your old fart reminiscing, but artists today are MUCH better at deadlines... In the same world, I suppose, in which Oasis was a keyboard band, Stone Roses were a grunge band, Dropkick Murphys are ... god knows what ... a chamber orchestra, for all I know. Etc. etc. etc.

What's with this offset printing? Woodcuts were plenty good enough in my day.

I'm in... considering that 95% of my collection is pre direct market and that I will be turning a half century old this year-my credentials should suffice!

I miss the days when message boards were operated with thumb tacks! Thiumb tacks? Why in my day, each town had a runner who passed messages to the next town.Even thru the rain and sleet. How do you think relay races started?
