Well I think we've passed the test. Two days with minimal mod presence (both mrp and I had higher priorities to attend to this weekend) and, so far as I can tell, things ran fine. I'll be honest -- staying on top of this board was beginning to get to me. I started to dream CCF, and you know that's never a good sign, so stepping away, not staying abreast of every topic, felt refreshing.
Remember, if you do see a problem, whether a major issue or a simple question of whether two threads need to be combined into one, use the reporting tool on the dropdown menu at the top right of any given post. This is ALWAYS the best way to get the attention of myself or a mod. It also means we don't need to rack our brains patrolling every single thread
So, important things for you to know:
1. I believe we have 3(?) days left before CBR wipes their old archives (still available for now at: oldforums.comicbookresources.com/index.php). After four days (my internet went out twice previously, screwing up the download), the program I've been using has auto-downloaded only 51% of the old Classic Comics subforum, so I don't know that it will get absolutely everything before time runs out (and I'm relatively sure it isn't grabbing any of the older topics that hadn't been active in over a month!). I spent tonight manually downloading all of my old reviews threads, page by page, because I couldn't imagine losing those. Beyond that, anything that you want to ensure isn't wiped away with the tide you need to go in and download yourself. Better to be overly cautious now than have regrets later.
(incidentally, if you use the hot key combo "cntrl" and "s", downloading each page of a thread goes MUCH faster. It took me about one hour to download every page of every one of my review threads (roughly 250 pages of content), and the full size was approx. 250 mb (roughly 1 mb per page).
2. Now that I've got my review threads all saved, my priority for the moment is gradually bringing back my old review threads, post by post. This was my passion at CBR, and it's something I really want to get back to here at CCF. Thus, any further work on the site itself, from the banner page (putting in that javascript is far more complex than just cutting and pasting into this page's code since I first have to understand the existing code I am revising!) to minor tweaks some of you have suggested for ease of use, are currently on my back burner. I'm about a third through moving my Batman reviews thread here, post by post (it's currently invisible -- I love admin powers ). I'd love to have it back up and running within the next two weeks. My other threads should require less time/work to move both because they are all significantly shorter threads (Batman was up to page 102) and because there was less discussion (which become complex when moving a thread over since you have to represent the whole thing with quotes when reposting it as a single user).
Did that make any sense? I'm darn tired tonight after battling illness, caring for my similarly ill six year old, planning and hosting my wife's birthday party, and treating my wife and mother to a full day of activities for Mother's Day.
Me go sleep now.
