I was reading a thread on another forum today and they were discussing Todd McFarlane's Lotus. Now, I've never seen this character before, but oh my god, this has to be the worst thing I have ever seen in my entire life. If you can think of a worse character design, let's see it.

It's not worse, but in the category. CAPTAIN ULTRA! I'll leave the posting of Leifeld's Image characters for someone else to have fun with.

Just really bland. He's pretty much "gore man." The designer, Mark Bagley, tweaked the character for the Ultimate universe and IMO it was a huge improvement.

Ah, the "extreme" 90s.

It looks pretty much identical to me the only difference is that he's more squiggly and his chest glows, neither of which seems like a real improvement

Going back a few years before the 90s for these:

George Perez is a magnificent artist, but man, did he design some terrible costumes. Nothing says urban vigilante to me like a bare chest, high shoulders to block your peripheral vision, and copious amounts of bright yellow and light blue.

I've always liked Carnage's design. While I've never been particularly fond of the character, his design is pretty great.

Different strokes for different folks but it just looks like a modern artist's rendition than a real change to me

Not that I think it's a good design, but.. His chest isn't bare. That's a collar, not shoulders. And at the time he wasn't an "urban vigilante".

Yeah I think Perez was more channeling the former trapeze artist than urban vigilante with the Nightwing costume, not that it is a great design, but it works better in the context of the circus motif than the urban justice theme. -M
