Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder Ursula Andress is in several of the best movies of the 1960s. Dr. No, What's New Pussycat? and Casino Royale all pop into my mind. (The 1960s version of Casino Royale has a very bad reputation, but I love it! Yeah, it's a bit of a mess, but I find it a very clever and entertaining mess. And I'm happy to report that it has a bit of a cult following, a small number fans that love it despite its imperfections.)
A few years ago, I watched all the James Bond films over a period of a few months (this was before the 2006 Casino Royale released) and at the end, I concluded that Dr. No is the best James Bond film. Well, maybe not the best, but it's my favorite. Everything important was done right from the first, and they changed the formula a bit as the years went on, but they never improved it.
I'm one of those fans - I think I saw Casino Royale about 5 or 6 times on tv as a kid, over the years. One of the best original soundtracks of all time too. Haven't seen it for many years now. Best Bond film - it's a tough call amongst those first three, Doctor No, Goldfinger, and From Russia with Love, but yeah, Doctor No will always hold a special place as the first, setting the template for what followed. Connery's entry as Bond is one of the most iconic moments in all of film history. No one else, not even Daniel Craig, who plays a very convincing tough guy himself, brings to the role quite the same combination of brutality and casually menacing charm that Connery does. When he beats up the driver from the airport, he's not only brutally efficient, the way Craig would be - there's also a look on his face as he punches the guy, almost a sneer, that makes you feel he's enjoying it in an offhandedly vicious kind of way. edit: Ursula Andress was of course amazing as well - I don't think there's ever been another "Bond girl" (bit of a cringeworthy phrase, isn't it) to match her. I only just realised she's Swiss - I always thought she was Swedish, for no reason at all, that I can think of..

My second favorite Bond film is You Only Live Twice. There's so much going on, plus it sets the template for the power-crazy madman holding the world for ransom plot. Donald Pleasance as Blofeld. There's an evil cat. (Gotta love the evil cat.) Akiko Wakabayashi, Mie Hama (who, between the two of them, are also in some of the best films of the 1960s - What's Up, Tiger Lily?, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, King Kong Escapes), Sean Connery disguised as a Japanese fisherman.

Lets not forget Caroline Munro.
She was in a Sinbad movie, a Bond Girl, but I loved her in the low budget Sci Fi Flick "Starcrashed" As space heroine Stella Starr.
The film was a bad rippoff on Star Wars with David Hasslehoff before he was on Knight Rider, but Munro was sexy & hot in this film.

... One of the greatest swashbuckling movies ever. I just loved this movie - see the trailer below and all-star cast loaded with action, romance, lavish costumes, and drama. Fabulous Movie and I just loved this 1952 Movie starring Stewart Granger and Eleanor Parker... Ah, Stewart Granger--he truly had a face (and physique) made for the camera. I read his autobiography a few months ago; he was no writer but his charm came through and the image on the cover gives some idea of his incredibly photogenic face:

Great pics of Linda Darnell. IMO she, Gene Tierney and Maureen O'Hara were in a class by themselves in terms of Hollywood beauty back then.

I've never seen Scaramouche but I love Eleanor Parker in Caged. One of the best "women in prison" films. (But it's hard to judge. Every "women in prison" film is one of the best. Ladies They Talk About (with Barbara Stanwyck and Lillian Roth), Condemned Women (with Sally Eilers and Anne Shirley), the Female Convict Scorpion movies (with Meiko Kaji), what's the name of the one with Pam Grier?)
Double Indemnity is great, but Barbara Stanwyck made a lot of great movies. Annie Oakley, Baby Face, Ladies They Talk About, Ball of Fire, The Miracle Woman, so on and etc.
I think my favorite is Night Nurse.

Spoken like a true Barbara Stanwyck fan here and again I wanted to say thanks for sharing your thoughts on her and I do like Night Nurse too. She was superb in that film back in 1931.

Maureen O'HaraOne of the legendary actresses around and still with us at the age of 94. These are my two favorite images of her - a gorgeous and refined beauty that captivated audiences on the Silver Screen. For your own enjoyment Farrar.

My favorite Maureen O'Hara movie is The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I love that courtroom scene where she can prove her innocence by grabbing the white dagger while blindfolded. When she fails and they drag her away, you can tell what she's thinking from her face: "Well, that was a bunch of B.S.!"
