Voyagers! (Not to be confused with Star Trek Voyager) I vaguely recalled this show from my childhood, but none of my friends knew what I was talking about. Fortunately the internet came along and I binge watched the whole thing on You tube not too long ago.

I bought the series a few years back on DVD and ripped it to my computer I usually upload it onto my iPad with the Leather Cover (My "guidebook" as it were:D) Here's the opening credits for those who haven't seen it (or heard of it) before.

I'm watching the first episode of Battlestar Galactica (1978). The aesthetic is very reminiscent of Star Wars and Starbuck is very much modeled after Han Solo.

I watched the first series of Red Dwarf over the weekend and I watched the first two episodes of the second series today. Years ago, I saw one or two episodes and I thought it looked interesting but I never got around to seeing anymore, but now it's on Netflix streaming!
What I remember from watching it years ago was the robot Kryten, so I was kind of disappointed (at first) with the early episodes because Kryten doesn't become a regular until the third series! But Lister and Rimmer and Cat and Holly and the scutters have grown on me. Still, my favorite episode is Kryten's single series two appearance.
What gets me is how bleak it all is when you get down to it. Everyone is dead except for the entities on the ship! There are (so far) no other aliens or humans in the universe! It is a very odd place to start for a comedy series. But it's working for me so far.

When I get the PS3 plugged back into the TV I may get back into Red Dwarf. It really is a bizarre premise for a comedy.

Everyone is dead except for the entities on the ship! Hold on, are you saying everybody's dead? "Red Dwarf" is a mining ship that has been floating around for three million years. Most of the crew was killed by a radiation leak. One technician - Lister - survived in suspended animation.
Rimmer is a hologram of one of the crew members.
Holly is the ship's computer, who has a face that appears on computer screens.
And then there's Cat. He is a humanoid descendant of a pregnant cat that lived in the ship's large hold and three million years of evolution has made him humanoid.
Three million years is a long time, and it seems that humanity has died off. I'm only in the second series and they haven't come across any other humans. And no other life forms have shown up either. (They did come across some skeletons being cared for by an android.)

But Peterson's not dead is he? Kochanski? Is the captain? Are you trying to tell me that everybody's dead?

Red Dwarf is one of those shows I always respected but was never fully able to get into.
I do love the dark concept behind it. Very British, and very Sci-Fi.

I hear that they do some weird alternate reality/time travel episodes later on in the show, but I haven't looked into it too closely. I want to be surprised.
Maybe they come across some other people later.

Connor and I watched and really liked the first two Series of Red Dwarf. But we didn't care for the wholesale changes in Series Three and gave it up.

Alas, my attempt at levity has fallen flat...
