The only time I remember tearing up was back in the late 80's after reading a Marvel Comics Presents story featuring Red Wolf. I believe it was the origin story of his wolf sidekick. The story began with a bunch of rednecks with rifles, drinking beer in the back of a pickup, while chasing and shooting a wolf mother and her pups in the desert. Red Wolf took care of the rednecks and the one surviving pup became his pal. I believe that was part of his origin story in Avengers #80. I did not know this. I have that era of Avengers in digital format, so I'll check it out.

Actually in Avengers #80, it's Red Wolf himself who reluctantly kills Lobo's mother after she attacks him. The Marvel Comics Presents story is a retcon.

Agreed about Krypto, and I am a big animal person, so Laika is one I'm definitely going to check out.
Yes, Maus was extremely moving as was Persepolis. Both excellent, but no comic has ever made me cry, though I admit to choking up a bit.

The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man was the first comic that made me...er...get somethin' in my eye.
The scene in Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow, where Superman's alone in the Fortress of Solitude, and he just breaks down.
The end of the last issue of The Adventures Of Barry Ween, Boy Genius.

Oh, and the death of Ultimate Peter Parker made me come pretty damn close.

Ultimate Fallout was more of a tearjerker for me than Death of Spider-Man but it should probably be read as one story.
Another one that was hard to get through dry eyed was Buddy Baker dealing with the death of his son Cliff in Animal Man #19 and Animal Man Annual #2 volume 2.

The issue where Scrooge McDuck's dad lets him go and then dies the next day. I mean, the room got dusty. Really dusty.

Jo, by Derib, is heart-wrenching. I was afraid it would be preachy or didactic, because it's a story about AIDS (and it goes back to 1991), but no, not at all... It's a tragic human story about how disease can strike anyone, at any time, and how devastating it can be. I loved how the story gave us several red herrings: the musician boyfriend who's been pretty promiscuous in the past, the kid sister who's never seen a party she didn't like... but no, it's mature and responsible Jo who comes down with the disease. Because viruses don't play the morality game, and they can strike anyone if given even one chance. The growing bond between her and her boyfriend during her last days is a joy to behold despite the tragedy they go through. I have no idea why that book isn't better known.

Preacher can do it to me in a couple places. Joe Kubert's Yossel, a what if style comic, of his life had his family stayed in Europe, gets me hard. James O'Barr's The Crow. The Filth. Couple issues of Kirby's New Gods gets me weepy when I reread.
Moto Hagio can make me tear up like nobody else. Her comics just gut punch me.
