Cards sign Pierzynski and a little piece of me dies. Y'all have fun with that. Maybe he can hit enough to make the clubhouse disruption worthwhile-but then that was what the socks hoped too. -M

And the Sox deal Peavy to the Giants for Escobar and Hembree two pitching prospects. The Sox housecleaning began with Pierzynski and looks like its picking up momentum.

Cards sign Pierzynski and a little piece of me dies. As a Pirates fan, I don't need any added incentive to hate the Cardinals, but they go ahead and make this move and give me just that.
I saw an anonymous players' poll in ESPN The Magazine before this current season and Pierzynski was second on the list of Least Wanted Teammates, between A-Rod (1st) and Ryan Braun (3rd); when you are tucked between those two guys, both of whom are confirmed cheaters and when you haven't done anything that egregious, you must be a serious jerk.

Cards sign Pierzynski and a little piece of me dies. As a Sox fan, I send you my best wishes. One good thing about Pierzynski is that even though he's a horrible hitter, at least you don't have to watch him try to hit for very long: "Pierzynski steps into the box. Ground ball to second and an inning-ending double play." That's right: AJ can't hit, but at least he's got no speed. Forget the piano on his back, this guy's hauling the entire orchestra. One other observation: Get used to hearing, "Pitch gets past Pierzynski." Two-three times a game on his best days. You realize how good other catchers are after you watch this humpty for two innings... Gawd, you'll appreciate Molina even more after a week of this lug.

Dodgers take the first of three against the Giants yesterday. Greinke pitched a dandy with 10 strikeouts. The bats for my Boys in Blue came alive and sprayed hits all over the field. Tonight Kershaw goings against Baumgartner; going to be a good one.

Pierzynski just made the worst throw (that stayed in the infield) I have ever seen to second followed by Hrabosky saying you have him for his leadership and offense. Not even five innings into the Pierzynski era and I've already had enough.

Tonight Kershaw goings against Baumgartner; going to be a good one. You guys got us good yesterday. Battle for first place is on tonight, but it won't be easy with Kershaw on the mound. Not sure why we traded for Peavy, he's got a record of 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA and a league record of 20 HR's allowed. Only thing I can think of is that he's given the Dodgers some trouble in the past, but it seems like a reach and not one of Sabean's better deals.

I'd like to congratulate my all time favorite pitcher, Greg Maddux, on his enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Derek Jeter gets 3 hits, moves past Yaz into 7th place. Needs 11 more to finish his career in 6th place in the All Time Hits Total and replace Honus Wagner for most hits by a shortstop as well. Realistically, its the high point of the season for a Yankees fan

Trivia tidbit I heard recently - Honus Wagner's name wasn't really "Honus". He wasn't literate, and the sportswriters of his day just wrote down what it sounded like. He was a Pennsylvania German, and he was called Hannes, short for Johannes. The sportswriters weren't German.

More trade deadline dominoes start to fall into place. Cards just dealt for Justin Masterson of the Indians. Masterson was solid for a few seasons but s having an off year in his free agent year. Kind of surprised the Cards moved for him, but maybe they didn't like the price for the other starters on the market or wanted to strike before the big names go and prices on second/third tier guys go up as supply dwindles.

Maaterson has indeed been dreadful; I gave up on him on my fantasy roster about 3 months ago, or whenever Doug Fister came off the DL. Still, though, if there's any team in baseball that can fix a pitcher, especially one who was previously sound (& who I know is coming off the DL, though I'm not sure for what), it's the Cards.
