Ima gona spread the word for Sixth G and Hellheim from lil ole Oni Press cos they surprised the hell outa me with how dang good dey is(much lika muh Inglish).
Ive been reading Sixth Gun for a few months now, bingeing like a crazy man, well worth the time, and was impressed with the energy in Hellheim as well, of course the lovely arty stuff helps in a big way.

Definitely agree with Sixth Gun.
If you look at the print numbers on floppies, they're horrible; Around 7,000 the last time I looked, however, the trades do fairly well.
I got introduced to this at a Planet Con a few years ago and saw quite a few people walking around with the trade. Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt were there. Unfortunately I missed Cullen Bunn, but had a nice talk with Brian Hurtt. Love Jonah Hex and a good western yarn in general; had heard good things about the title and this new Bunn guy, and it didn't hurt at all that Brian Hurtt was a really nice guy. I gladly picked up the first trade. On my way to their table, I stopped an older lady, probably in her 60's (!) and asked if she'd read it before as she had a trade with some other things in her arms. She enthusiastically said yes. From all that there was no way I couldn't go without buying it. Read it and really enjoyed it and have the first volume autographed by Mr. Hurtt (now there's a name for a villain if I ever heard of one).
I've seen previews of Helheim, and they look good too. Who doesn't love vikings ?
Good picks, pakehafulla

When DC went Nu52, I jumped ship there for the most part and decided to try some more indies.
Enjoying immensely some of the more lighthearted books like Quantum & Woody, Archer and Armstrong, Flash Gordon. Also a great read has been Watson & Holmes (the one set in Harlem). Hoping there'll be a new issue eventually. Tried Captain Midnight but dropped it after a 5 or so issues. Too mediocre. Could not get into Unity from Valiant.
Also really into Mark Waid's non-Big-2 work: Green Hornet from Dynamite and The Fox from Archie Comics.
A Voice in the Dark from Image is very cool and creepy - the writer/artist draws with his mouth due to physical challenges, and he used to post on CBR and seemed like a really nice guy. It's kind of like Strangers in Paradise meets Dexter meets Twin Peaks.

Five Ghosts from Image by Frank Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham...one of my favorite books on the market...2 trade collections are out and the third arc is being released in floppies currently I believe... Fabian Gray is a treasure hunter haunted by five literary ghosts whose abilities he can borrow from... Mooneyham is a graduate of the Kubert school and his work evokes the dynamism of the legendary master as well (the ghost of Joe Kubert guiding his work? It has the feel of an old school pulp adventure... Volume 3 of the trade is due in July and I think a Deluxe hardcover collection the first 2 trades had been solicited as well. Check it out. As for others recommendations here-Hellheim was excellent, the first few issues of Bride of Hellheim the follow up mini did not quite live up to the first. For more pulpy goodness, check out the Black Beetle series or trade from Dark Horse by Francavilla (a follow up is in the works but delayed by his Archie work) Night World from Image for divine Kirby-inspired madness of sublime beauty... -M

I've never heard of Nightworld but it looks right up my ally.

I took a flier on two Image series and both look good enough to continue. RED ONE written by Xavier Dorison art by Terry and Rachel Dodson This is the story of a Soviet agent sent to the USA in 1977 to become America's favorite super hero. The first issue was mostly set up and origin, but it had a good bit of humor and it did a good job of using its 1977 setting. The art by the Dodsons is its usual high level. The first issue also gives you a full 32 pages of story and art for your $2.99. The comic will put out two issues, then go hiatus as the Dodsons go on a little vacation after finishing Princess Leia. SECRET IDENTITIES Written by Jay Faerber and Brian Joines Art by Ilias Kryiazis and Charlie Kirchoff This one is about a super team, The Front Line. They are about to induct a new member, Crosswind, but he has a secret. He's kind of like Terra from back in the day New Teen Titans. While Crosswind waits to find out the team's secrets, the readers learn about many of them in the first issue. I'll give away one here as an example, the team's "Flash" has two different families and he's always racing back and forth between them. The art was a pleasant surprise and the first issue had 28 pages of story and art for $3.50. Jay Faerber has a solid track record for me at Image with Noble Causes and Dynamo 5 and it looks like he's going to get even more money from me with this series.

My favorite newish comic is almost certainly Mind Mgmt by Matt Kindt. Some mystery, conspiracy, thriller elements. But all surrounded by some excellent science fiction work. I feel like I'm reading the X-Men comic that X-Men just never was, but I always wanted it to be.
It begins with the Amnesia Flight. Somehow, everybody aboard a plane suffers amnesia. And one passenger seems to be missing. A journalist seeks the truth about the flight, but gets entangled in a decades old conspiracy and web of deceipt. And that's only the beginning.

Image is really publishing a lot of good stuff these days that I'm interested in and has passed both Marvel and DC in the amount of comics I'm getting (most of them in trades though):
Saga is very popular of course. My personal favourites are Rat Queens, Death Vigil and East of West. Also getting Sex, Sex Criminals (mm.. those two after each other gives a rather wrong impression I guess), Lazarus, Manhattan Projects, Ravine, whatever Brubaker and Philips are doing at the moment (Fade Out at moment of writing), the aforementioned Five Ghosts. And there is more stuff that I'm interested in: I give many of Image's new series one issue to try out.
Of these I only get Rat Queens and Death Vigil in singles (oh and the recent Descender). The rest in trades.
Dark Horse is down to Empowered and Hellboy for me (and whenever Wagner gets up to another Grendel or Mage).
Valiant was only Shadowman and occasionnaly Quantum and Woody, but suffers from Image tearing into my budget.

I'm getting, like, half of Image in trade (Saga, Chew, Sex Criminals, Trees, Rat Queens, Manhattan Projects, East of West, Walking Dead, Invincible...), Afterlife With Archie and a bunch of licensed books (Star Trek, the Doctors Who, X-Files, Orphan Black, Galaxy Quest, Big Trouble in Little China...)

Ive read a little of Five Ghosts, and kind of like it, though I find the art to be a bit hit or miss, he nails it on some pages, but then loses it on the next. Keep meaning to try black Beetle cos I really dig Francavilla, and it should be right up my alley. Nightworld was...damn strange brother, loved the art, no doubt there, but that dude has been smokin alternative cigarettes or somethin. The Valiant books were all kind of okay, pretty, but nothing really grabbed hold, and Quantum and Woody just dont do it at all for me. Flash Gordon rocked, loved that big time. Not mentioned, but I WANT to like the new Phantom, will see. Red One and Secret Identities are okay and so was the new one by the fabulous Gabriel Hardman, Invisible Republic. Want to try Becky Cloonan's new book, but cant for the life of me remember the title.
Love Saga, Rat Queens, East of West, and Manhattan Projects. Still dig Walking Dead, and like his other books Thief of Thieves and Outcast(really like that).
hell, not a lot of space left for Marvel and DC...

Now howzabout I upset a few fine folks here... I'm loving most of the Millarverse books. MPH Jupiters Legacy Chrononauts Nemesis ...and obviously a few others. I like his writing style and his twist of genres, and boy he gets some pretty drawings done for him.
