Picked up All-New X-Factor #7 and Moon Knight #3 this week. X-Factor has started slowly, but I've read enough PAD to know that he sometimes takes the long build for his storylines, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm not crazy about the art, but I'm more into the writing, so I will put up with a book if the writing is good but the art is subpar. As for Moon Knight, I really want to like it, as I am a huge Warren Ellis fan, but this is stretching my limits of tolerance. The problem with this book is that it really isn't a Moon Knight book; it's a Warren Ellis-written book that happens to have Moon Knight in it, much as the Morrison X-Men era was him telling stories he wanted to that had the X-Men as characters but it could have been any characters really and the stories would have turned out the same. The art in Moon Knight is gorgeous, but the stories, by and large, are thread-bare with little dialogue and virtually nothing that could be built on for the future. It literally took me 3 minutes to leaf through the latest issue and go "huh" at the end. I loved Moon Knight back in the day by Moench & Sienkiewicz. That was the character I loved. I haven't liked anything since then, but was excited about Ellis' stint, but from the preview I've seen I'm passing

Is anyone picking up the All New Ghost Rider by chance? I'm curious, this is one of the very few new Marvel titles that have piqued my interest due to the insane artwork.

I've been avoiding it because of that artwork, and I'm not too pleased about the car replacing the bike...that's like replacing my FMPs with women's flats. And I consider myself quite the Ghost Rider fan...but this is an abomination. I might reconsider if I actually read it...but I'm not liking what I see.

It looks like manga. I actually like the car, but pretty sure an intake doesn't throw flames.

I found All-New Ghost Rider to be enjoyable. The Tradd Moore artwork is kinetic and Val Staples colors are exceptional.

I just bought journey into mystery, the complete collection vol. 1. That' a pretty neat format! A bit more expensive than an Essential, but with the added bonus of colour.
The story starts well, but not having read Thor since Straczynski left, I am a bit lost. Apparently Odin is no longer dead and Asgard no longer in Oklahoma? Were things brought back to the status quo ante because of the movies?
I am discomfited, also, that the brilliant ending to Thor's original series by Michael Oeming was undone and more than undone: it was ignored. Yes, I realize that Thor and Asgard would somehow come back after Ragnarok, because this is comics. However this return should not simply have negated what had come before : Thor did not go back in time and undo Ragnarok, he resurrected the Asgardians by using the Odinforce. How is it that everybody's just carrying on as if the world hadn't ended? how can plots still hang on "ancient prophecies" after the end of everything? How can there be secret rooms or ancient hidden artifacts in an Asgard that was razed to the ground and annihilated? How come there are still dead Asgardians (apart from those killed since the return)? It really looks as if it was decided that Oeming's run was too problematic and that it should be ignored. I cry foul! It was a brilliant ending to a classic series, and it should be acknowledged!
But back to JiM... This Gillen fellow is quote a good writer, and his Young Loki is a lot of fun. And Doug Braithwaite, whom I didn't know either, is also a pretty good artist, finely assisted by colorist Ulises Arreola. That's a purchase I'm happier with than some other recent ones!

I read Magic Wind FCBD edition. Magic Wind is an ex-US soldier and a Sioux Shaman. In this he goes out West with Edgar Allan Poe to fight Mormons and cthulu(?). I guess this is the beginning (30pp) of an upcoming graphic-novel sized volume. Hopefully they give the copyediting another pass, as there were some spelling errors. Some fun ideas in play, anyway. It's not actually Edgar Allan Poe, but a journalist that looks like him. I don't have the FCBD issue. but the actually trades are really great, and I didn't notice any editing issues. There are 3 out at present... apparently it's a series that ran 100+ issues that's just getting translated.

Thanks for your opinions on the All New Ghost Rider. Like Jez, I wasn't thrilled with the new Ghost Rider look (as well as many other NOW! revamps) but the art just looks so zany cool that I may have to check out the trade. Thanks again!

Did anyone else pick up the Vertigo Anthology Cyan a couple weeks back? Just finished reading through it last night, some good stuff in there despite the brouhaha over Joe Keatinge's story. I am glad to see this kind of anthology book coming from Vertigo, and will likely pick up the other three as well.

It looks like manga. I actually like the car, but pretty sure an intake doesn't throw flames. On normal cars no, but neither are the flames on fire on normal motorcycles. Demon*-powered cars and motorcycles can throw flames anywhere. *= OK, to be honest we don't know if the new Ghost Rider is demon-possessed or something else like some of the previous Spirits of Vengeance.

It seems like it is some sort of an old fashioned radioactive waste sort of origin. If I can find it, I'll post the article.

Asgard is definitely still floating over Broxton, OK (now owned by Roxxon).. I think it has been continuously since it moved there.
I haven't read Gillien's Loki stuff, though I've heard good things. The Sif Stuff was pretty good.
I agree the new Ghost Rider looks like Manga. I'm all for that, but I'm sure it's not going to fly with older fans... seems like it would be better served call it 'Ghost Rider: The Manga' and marketing it that way.
It's one of many new series I doubt will last a year.

The Sif Stuff was pretty good. Yep, it's still got an Oklahoma zip code... I had to look on Wikipedia to understand what was going on: Odin did briefly come back, rebuilt a heavenly Asgard (that's what happened in the first few pages of JiM) but then got himself killed again in the Fear Itself crossover. Tony Stark rebuilt the Broxton Asgard (that had been levelled in the Siege crossover), now renamed Asgardia, and unless another "event" removed it, it should still be there. Gillen has a good "voice" for young Loki, and I like the way he makes use of the love-hate relationship of the two Odinsons seen in the movie. (That's one of the intrusions of the movie world into the comics world that I don't mind overmuch). I'm two issues in and it's still good. Knock on wood for the rest!

Ahh.. I haven't really read any of Fear Itself (except the Avengers Academy issues)... it's on the list (that's the last remaining current gap in my Iron Man run)
