I'm surprised they haven't actually done the whole "He's not worthy of Mjolnir" storyline up to now. He's been banished from Asgard and his powers have been cut down, but he's generally always had Mjolnir. Wonder Woman's been stripped of being Wonder Woman twice now.

Are his days as Thor numbered? There'll be lots of boozing lusty tavern wenches (aka my mates) crying bloody murder...one already is, you'd swear she is an expert on Thor but she doesn't even know who Jack Kirby is. Every time, in both movies, he takes his shirt off, I hear a bunch of shrieking and giggling. It's awesome.

Archie's dead.
Going by that picture he must've died of a heart attack as the bullet whizzed past him on the right.

Amazing.
That announcement turned me off more than anything I can ever remember. If I weren't already 99.9% done with Marvel, I would be now.
I posted over there I'm buying and loving the indies and might come back when, not if, Marvel reboots.

So the whole thing? I don't see how it's so different from other Marvel stories from the past.

For some reason I thought it was going to be a sniper bullet that got Archie

So the whole thing? I don't see how it's so different from other Marvel stories from the past. It's so incredibly different to me. Honestly. I feel zero connections to the characters they're talking about. The whole Marvel U practically is Avengers now, and I guess I sound like an old curmudgeon, but I guess you can't go back. I'm still buying some DC and enjoying it, along with a lot of indies.
None of what they have there, except for Dr Strange, which I could maybe go for, is anything I would like.

Wow. " Steve Rogers' adopted son from Dimension Z, Ian, will also be a part of the series, taking on the Nomad role." Nope. Nope, nope, nope.
Ok, I just read the latest issues of Invincible and The Walking Dead by Image, and I couldn't put them down! The tension and excitement is palpable. I grinned, I gasped, and I was hooked. I simply don't get that from 99% of Big Two stuff anymore, and announcements like this don't make me think that will change any time soon. If there is stuff that is so good like the Image stuff, why would I want to waste my money on the average to bad junk?

With so much better stuff coming from Image why would I want to spend my money on books written by Kirkman whose plotting I find plodding, pedantic and predictable and whose dialogue I find generic o laughably bad? It's really all a matter of what you like and don't. Buy what you like and don't worry if people are buying stuff you don't like. You like Kirkman's stuff, great, I don't great. It's a big market so everyone can find stuff they like. If they like big 2 stuff, more power to them I say, buy and read what you like. -M

I'm not normally a follower of Avatar, but Garth Ennis's long-teased new War Stories series from them is finally beginning in October (with new editions of the Vertigo run's trades). First up is Castles In The Sky, a look at early WWII bomber missions. Some other ones to follow are Out Of The Blue, a sequel to 2003's Archangel one-shot; The Children Of Israel, following some Israeli takers during the Yom Kippur War; and Our Wild Geese Go, about a true story of some Irish soldiers who chose to fight for the British crown and the grim consequences that followed that decision.

To each his own, for sure. I'm not worried about what others read or buy, and I didn't think I said anything that suggested otherwise. If that came across in my post, I apologize - totally unintentional. Sorry for the wall of text that's about to happen. I'll try to be concise, but I'm a bit fried after work. While I vehemently disagree with you about Kirkman, I agree with "buy what you like," and I'm not telling anyone to buy or not to buy anything. Speaking only for myself, I am just disappointed with what I perceive to be the current state of most Big 2 output. See, I used to like the Big 2. I want to like the Big 2. I've been an X-fan for over 20 years, and I hate that I don't enjoy the X-books anymore. I love Superman and Batman and the archetypal, pop-culture classic characters, and I wish I enjoyed their current books, but I don't. I don't know if it's more my tastes and perspectives changing or the books themselves (most likely somewhere in the middle), but it took a long time for me to slowly break the habit of buying those titles. I kept buying for a year or more, but I enjoyed what I read less and less, and finally I just lost interest and kept buying an ever-growing pile I never read and didn't want to read. Anyway, I guess what I was trying to convey in my last post is that I'm no longer buying out of habit or for a collection or to follow a character/team/publisher. There is stuff out there now that does excite me the way the X-Men or Superman used to, and that is where I'm going to spend my time and money from now on. I didn't mean to dump on anything anyone else here likes. I'm just talking about myself, and I'm buying what I like, and I hope everyone else does the same. ...though I am enjoying not paying $3.99 for a single floppie.

Funny: I'm reading more Marvel books than ever before: Avengers, New Avengers, Avengers World, Daredevil, Hulk, All New X-Factor, Original Sin, Original Sin: Hulk Vs. Iron Man, Miracle Man reprints, trade waiting Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Silver Surfer, She-Hulk, maybe Mighty Avengers...
