So I read The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story from the public library. The painted art was nice enough, but I was pretty unimpressed with the writing. I don't think anything new was brought to the table concerning the Beatles, or Brian. Except maybe some of the author's own psychodrama. And it was just trying too hard to be cute at times. It's not horrible, but I can't really recommend it overall. I guess this just won an Eisner for something. Non-fiction GN maybe.

DC announced their variant theme for December books, these ar ethe same price as regular variants...I was a sucker and bought a bunch of the Bombsehll covers and the Steranko 75th anniversary Batman cover for Detective Comics-and I was pretty much swearing off any more variants-until...until...Darwyn Cooke month aaaaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhh! I love Darwyn's art. $3-$4 for a comic sized Darwyn art print is not unreasonable right...and besides I have to have this Teen Titans variant..... aggh so much for Christmas money.....22 variants, won't ge them all this time, but there are at least 10 I am looking atand they are all landscape oriented so will look very nice framed and on a wall somewhere (if only I had any wall space left as those who have checked out the Chez _____ thread have seen how full my walls are.... -M

I hate that the JLD has the characters so far in the distance.
edit: The Batgirl is my favorite.

Here's something of interest - This Saturday at noon Pacific time, Oregon Public Broadcasting's radio show "State of Wonder" will have an interview with Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick. Here's what they say about it, and the same link should provide you a way to hear it after it's broadcast.

Thanks for that link. DeConnick is one of the few current writers I enjoy.

Just picked up some more Fantagraphics on 50 % off sale at Comixology. I really love their stuff : Richard Sala, Los Hernandez Bros, Jason, Tim Lane, Jim Woodring, and reprints including Simon & Kirby, Bill Everett, and the EC gang.
Those Darwyn Cooke covers are incredible. The last Planet Con I attended, he was the main draw for me. Apparently a lot of other fans felt the same way as it was by far the longest line of the entire con. With my back problems, I couldn't stand for long and didn't get to see him.

Well the Jim Starlin arc that was supposed appear in Savage Hulk is no longer going to be published as part of that title, instead it will be a standalone mini-series entitled Hulk vs. Thanos. I was wondering what happened when I saw solicits for Savage Hulk beyond the Alan Davis arc but by a different creative team than the announced Starlin arc. Well I will be off Savage Hulk after the Davis arc (same happened with Savage Wolverine, I got the Cho arc with Wolvie and Shanna in the Savage land vs. a Lovecraftian menace but bailed after that) but will be picking up the Starlin mini.
