Did anyone else check out The Phantom #1 by Peter David and Sal Velluto? The first issue was pretty solid but it's only a new six part mini series.

I did and enjoyed it well enough. I don't mind that it's a mini in this market. HAve a story to tell, tell it well and finish up. I commit to a story not a series and it's cool for me.

I never did read much Phantom, but I enjoyed the character in Jeff Parker's recent King's Watch mini (and the Flash Gordon comic that followed it is awesomesauce, btw). Maybe I'll try out this new series by PAD.

Guess that makes me... </div>HA! I LOVE that. Because Betty totally would Wolverine all over the place if given the option. And then she'd smile all cute and everyone would forget that she just went feral and cut half a village up. Cleanup in aisle 4, Coldwater has been Wolverining everywhere...again.

The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1 at times felt like Grant Morrison writing an issue of Watchmen. I didnt care for it. He got to use the Charlton characters unlike Moore, but made an incomprehensible mess, which is probably par for the course with Morrison.

I really should check into some classic LoSH. I enjoyed the New52 titles well enough at the time. Continuity concerns me, though. I think you could start with the Great Darkness Saga and (assuming you have a basic knowledge) be fine. You could also start a with Zero Hour (the 'Threeboot') when they had 2 titles with triangles like Superman. The pre-new 52 Mark Waid run is also pretty reader friendly. I didn't love it (it was good, but seemed off somehow), but it's decent. That one turns into 'Supergirl and the Legion' after 15 issues or so. My favorite is probably the Abnett/Lanning era, but I think you'd need to start with Zero Hour to appreciate it Another good place to start could be the beginning of the Baxter series by Levitz and Lightle. At least you get 5 years of comprehension before the 5 Years Later Legion.

I'm reading the Baxter series right now, actually. It's not a conventional 1st issue, but is more just the next issue after 305 or whatever... but it is the start of a new storyline, so that works without too much trouble.

I was about to post this in another thread, but it makes more sense here... what do you guys (especially our resident superfan) think of what Hickman's doing to Namor?
I had kind of an epiphany the other day... Hickman's ridiculous characterizaton of Namor kinda sums up what I don't like about his writing in particular, and the MU in general, right now... no one cares about what a character would do based on their 50, 60, 70 etc year history in the MU... they just write their story, then slot in whatever Marvel character is the closest analogue to what they have in mind.

In New Avengers?? If so, I stopped reading that garbage a while ago. I didn't even continue to read it for Namor because Hickman was just sucking so badly at writing him.

Heh.. same here. It popped into my head again because one of the other Marvel Universes,he's been pretty cool (I think Invaders and Fantastic Four can legitimately take place in the same place, anyway), which makes Hickman all the more horrendous, IMO.

Did Invaders get cancelled?? Because I was told it's cancelled.

It's slated to be cancelled along with another Elektra series. See??? AND THIS IS WHY MARVEL SUCKS SO MUCH RIGHT NOW. Cancelled two out of the four books that I pull from them a month. I have exactly TWO books left from Marvel I am pulling monthly. Dare me to dislike you some more, Marvel. JUST DARE ME.
