I've been wanting to start a general Batman thread since CCF started, but I couldn't think of a good thread title and I also haven't been reading much Batman lately (except when he was in some of the early Bronze Age JLA stories I was reading in Showcase Presents: JLA, Volume 5). But I thought of a pretty decent title today and I'm going to throw out a few ideas for discussion covering several creative eras of the Caped Crusader's long history.
How many people did Batman and Robin kill before the "no killing" rule took effect?
Ten best stories of the Jack Schiff regime.
Bronze Age Batman: Frank Robbins vs. Denny O'Neil
Where Were You the Night Jason Todd Was Killed?: Your thoughts on the life and death (and second life) of Jason Todd, especially the hype surrounding the hotline and the decision of the fans to kill the second Robin.
The Best of Renee Montoya.
Grant Morrison: What is the best trade to get started on for people who are iffy about Grant Morrison?

Any good story from Jack Schiff's regime that Bill Finger did not write?

He's my favorite character in all of comics after Superman.
Here's one of my favorite Batman moments of all time from the Justice League cartoon.
Hopefully by Christmas, this set of DVDs will be in my hands...

In The Encyclopedia of Comic Book Heroes, Michael Fleisher estimates it as about a score, all in the first year or so of stories. This doesn't count accidental deaths like Alfred Stryker, who falls backwards over a rail into a vat of acid after being punched by Batman.
In Detective Comics #27, he flings a hoodlum off the roof a two-storey house. In #28, he throws a member of Frenchy Blake's gang of the roof of a building. In #29, he strangles Dr Death's assistant Jabah, and in #30 he breaks the neck of Death's second assistant, Mikhail. In Batman #1, he machine guns down two of Hugo Strange's man-monsters, and strangles a third. Some additional members of Strange's gang may die when he causes their trucks to crash, but this isn't explicit. In Detective #39, he overturns a giant idol on top of the Green Dragon Tong, killing a number of them. This is why it is hard to calculate an exact number. In Batman #2, he punches Adam Lamb down some stairs and breaks his neck. This may be the last time Batman deliberately kills someone in the Golden Age.
In Batman #4, he declares "Remember, we never kill with weapons of any kind!", which may be the first explicit expression of the code against killing.

Circe The episode is from Justice League Unlimited called "This Little Piggy." Was that Kevin Conroy singing? Yes it was. When the writers realized Conroy had a great singing voice they wrote that scene for him.

1. My mom wouldn't let me make the phone call to cast my vote. I didn't care for Jason Todd, but seeing Robin die did make me sad. 2. Best of Renee Montoya: Detective Comics #747 and Gotham Central: Half a Life (6-10) 2. Grant Morrison on Batman: I'm a big fan of Morrison (almost a Whorrison) and I loved his Batman run. Best trade to start off to see if people are iffy about his Batman? I'm going to select two. First is Batman and Son; this reprints the beginning of his run. Second is JLA: New World Order. Morrison sealed the deal with just how brilliant and badass Batman in the modern age with this one.

I'd like nominations for Batman's most vicious moments in comics... I guess that leaves out the 60s

I'd go with Batman and Son, The Black Glove and first volume of his run on Batman and Robin for his best work on Batman, but I agree on the whole I enjoyed nearly every issue he did to varying degrees.

I never cared for Morrison's work on Batman, though that probably has to do with my dislike of Damian Wayne as a character.
