That was a pretty awesome short, gotta love Bruce Timm. I really wish that SOLO would come back so that Bruce could finally do his issue.

I did a little Google search and found this: "By 1940′s Batman #4, in a story by co-creators Bill Finger and Bob Kane — which is about as definitive as you can get — Batman reminds Robin that “we never kill with weapons of any kind.” This led to a short phase when Batman would strangle criminals with his hands. I read somewhere that Finger's original line read, "We never kill with weapons of any kind...anymore. It simply takes that old Limey too long to get out blood stains. Alfred has a hard enough time with our laundry as is -- particularly with your bladder control issues. I need a smoke..."

Does anyone else like Batman:Brave and the Bold more than B:TAS? I don't know about better but definitely just as good. I especially liked the Damian Wayne episode and any and all appearances by Batmite.

Great comedians know when to use retroactive continuity to their advantage.

Just read a Spectre story from 1941 that referred to him as "The Dark Knight." I'm wondering when this label became exclusive to Batman. Surely, it didn't begin with Frank Miller.

I've read somewhere it was used in Batman #1 in a story by Bill Finger, but I don't currently have a copy of it to check 'Tec #27 sure, Batman #1 no. -M

Was it a regular sobriquet for the Spectre or a 1 time deal? Or perhaps Finger wrote that Spectre story and it was a term he used for whatever hero he was writing but after Spectre went on hiatus it just stuck with Batman? I know Siegel regularly wrote Spectre but credits form GA can be sketchy.

The thing is, I think "The Dark Knight" actually fits The Specter better, at least in 1941.

I spent the last two Saturday mornings watching part one and two of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS on DVD and rather enjoyed it. It's been a while since I read the books, but it seemed like a pretty faithful adaptation. The original wouldn't have had references to Jason Todd's death, I guess.

It's been a while since I read the books, but it seemed like a pretty faithful adaptation. The original wouldn't have had references to Jason Todd's death, I guess. If I remember correctly, there was a Robin who had died as part of the why Bruce retired, and what made the appearance of Carrie Kelly as Robin so unlikely in that storyline-Bruce didn't want another life on the line as his responsibility. Whether it was specifically Jason Todd (who was appearing as Robin at the time in the in continuity books, I can't recall, but if I also recall, part of the buzz at the time of the Jason Todd vote was whether it was a move towards the future depicted in Miller's dystopian Bat-future. It's been a good long while so my memory is suitably fuzzy right now (and I am trying to write a Diamond order currently so my brain is complete mush at the moment) so I could well be off in my recollections. -M
