wildfire2099 and I ended up discussing this in another thread. Do you currently buy, or have you ever bought, any comic book trading cards? I collected Marvel Universe Series I through III, and X-Men Series I and II. Of those, I enjoyed Marvel Universe series II the most, as I felt that set put as much thought and care into the information on the back of the cards as they did the art on the front of the cards. I actually learned A LOT about the Marvel Universe by collecting that set, and I enjoyed the art and the hunt quite a bit as well.  I still have my old sets somewhere in the basement. I pull it out for a quick browse from time to time. Got my DC Cosmic Cards and Star Trek Next Gen Series I and II cards in there too. |

Great Topic - ShaxWhen DC Comics and Marvel Comics did the 1st Spiderman and Superman Cross-Over - I brought the Comic from the Store that carries them and they through in this card for Promotional Purposes and the Clerk told me that this card was totally free and there were a sign by the cash register stating that. I still have the card and it's still housed in a protective plastic cover and never, ever been taken out.  Free Trading CardThis card above you was given to me as a thanks for buying the first historic crossover of Spiderman and Superman back in 1976.  This got me excited and I been buying them ever since! The best $2.00 that I ever spent!

The only Marvel trading cards I ever had were the set from 1967 that had panels from the comics with "funny" new dialogue added on one side and part of a puzzle on the other. When you put the whole puzzle together, it made a poster with pics of spider-Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and Daredevil. They pretty much disintegrated from handling over the years and my mother gave what remained away when I went off to college.

I love those early 90s ones... I have all those... I have the Star Trek ones, too from around that time.. that's like a 300 card set, it has a card for every episode and all the major characters from TNG and TOS, if I remember right. I also have most of the Kree-Skrull sets, which are really fun.. besides some character cards, they have a few side stories to supplement the series, as well as an alternate cover... I think the main one is 10 pages, and the rest are 2-5 (there's 4 or 5 of those). It's set up so that each group of 9 cards makes a page, if you put them in a standard baseball card sheet:  There's also a bunch of recent sets from Upper Deck... similar to the 90s ones, only like 10x more expensive... called Marvel Masterpieces. I just found a recently released Marvel now! one as well, from last year. Then, of course, they do movie-based sets still, mostly with cards that have stills from the movie.. I know they did those for Avengers, Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. I was mostly indifferent to the Marvel Universe trading cards. I had some of the X-Men cards that came with the Toy Biz action figures, but then this set hit...  and I was all over it. I did get some of the Masterpieces cards too, depending on the artist, and got quite a few of the all prism Silver Surfer trading cards...  My wife got quite a few of the X-Men and Wolverine card sets plus a lot of the Marvel Universe cards, so we have a bunch in our basement in binders still, but she was getting them long before I met her. I also remember getting a lot of a particular set of Star Wars cards at the time, they were oversized and many featured original concept art by Ralph McQuarrie (not sure if they were the chase cards or not). I did get more non-Marvel cards than Marvel ones, especially these:   and these...  However, when my budget got tight, I had to cut back on hobby spending, and cards were the first to go, so I could keep getting comics. Action figures soon followed in the budget cuts, and then comics themselves got cut way back. Then I went into one of my hiatus periods and when I came back, it was comics only. -M |

The Star Wars one were probably 'Star Wars Galaxy'... very cool cards. Lots of McQuarrie Concept art, as well as art from all sort of random comic book artists... I have the 1st couple series... I know they did at least 5 of them.

I never bought trading cards of any type. I did pick up the reprint series of the Batman TV show cards at an auction at a comic con for dirt cheap one time.
And I'd kill for the original Mars Attacks cards because I love both Wally Wood and Norman Saunders.

I've only collected a little bit of cards, but I loved the set the Hildebrants did for Marvel in the 90's.  |

I don't recall if it was a separate set or part of that one, but I definitely remember a bunch of cool 2099 cards by the Hildebrandts I have somewhere.

I collected Marvel Universe I-III as well and agree that II was the best of the bunch. They basically functioned as mini-Handbooks. I did like the Rookie's concept. Didn't that only appear in the first set? |
