All i ever see for new plain trading cards these days is WWE wrestling cards, once in awhile another new Garbage Pail Kid series such as last year's Halloween themed Garbage Pail Kids, sports which i see alot and weird cartoonish stuff for the kids.

If you're not going to go to a specialty store, the best place for cards these days is Target. They generally have a section near checkout. For non-sports, they continue to have different Star Wars sets... they've done one for each of the movies, and there were a couple additional 'Star Wars Galaxy' series. They sometimes do weird stuff like mix in cards/scenes from previous movies though, and they tend to stick to the same designs as the 80s cards from the ones I've got (which was the Rogue One set). Walmart has a similar set up, but I go there far less often, and my recollection was it was mostly sports cards and Pokemon. I feel like I've seen other movies/properties on occasion as well, as things are released when their movies/shows are around, but I cant' say anything grabbed my attention much. |

Nowadays, I don't look for any current card series based on comics, TV or movies, as the subjects can be repetitive. Regarding Star Wars, the last time I found a card line interesting was 1995's Topps Widevision cards, as its one of the last pieces of Star Wars merchandising to feature the pre-Special Edition images. The images were quite sharp and still hold up today. |

I love the Widevision cards! I think I'm missing a few of the ANH ones... I have to check than. They did them for the Rebels Cartoon too (at least the first season)

Hey shaxper Looks like the market for Marvel trading cards from the 90s is exploding in the collector's market. I know you have been thinking of selling some of your books the way the market is going, not sure if you have Marvel cards you might want to sell while the iron is hot. Unopened boxes of series 1 Marvel cards have been selling upwards of $3K. Here's a video talking about/analyzing the trend: -M |

I have those somewhere in my life.... they were fun at the time, but I can't imagine paying alot for them. Nostalgia is a powerful thing though.
Just looking on ebay.. damn. TONS of unopened boxes have sold in the week.

Well, I decided to list my Series I and Series III boxes too. We'll have to see if, in a few weeks, there's a bump in people selling sets and individual chase cards.

You can read it again but, to some extent, it's been consumed. Unopened packs, though...I own the complete sets of these cards, and yet some child-like part of me is enthralled by the unknown of what is in those packs. So yeah, bored during Covid...opening packs would be thrilling if I didn't already have the complete sets. In fact, I'm willing to bet collectibles in general have soared in value in the age of covid. So much free time and so little to do! |

I'd also put money on the rise of 90s nostalgia in general playing a part on this. It's been about 20 years since 70s nostalgia hit Bronze Age collectibles and price rose unexpectedly. 10 years since 80s nostalgia really hit 80s collectibles and had the same impact on demand and prices. So 90s nostalgia hitting about now (i.e. 30 years after the start of the decade so those who grew up in it are hitting their late 30s/40s) is right on schedule. Combine that with idle hands in the pandemic for a lot of people in that age group, and you have a potential phenomenon. -M |

as a KISS fan, I got into cards very early, with complete Sets of the classic KISS 77 (and 78), and although some of it did translate into my comics collecting: I have the Ultraverse set, and the DC Set that Shaxper showed above? I mainly stuck to the higher end cards, if I were buying boxes of them. one of my all time favorite sets remains the Vertigo cards, of which I have at least 1 full set (and a few partial sets probably), and the binders - all stored away behind boxes of comics of course. . LOL but really, those were STUNNING cards. (I liked the Sandman specific set too)  These cards are gorgeous. I bought 2 sealed boxes about 4 yrs ago (for $15 each!) and ended up with 2 full sets and handful of leftovers. A couple of the foil chase cards eluded me though, and I found them for sale separately for $3-4 each I want to say...? I bought a set of the Sandman set as well, but it wasn't a box. I like the general Vertigo set better I think; if I remember correctly, the Sandman set wasn't all original art, and many cards just featured reprinted comic panels. I could be mistaken. |
