what's up everyone....haven't posted here in a long time, but just thought I'd drop by to remind everyone of FCBD next week so be sure to visit your local shops, even though I'm ticked because like always, my shop only allows one comic per customer. most of the shops it seems youre allowed to have 3-5 comics, and with such a great selection this year it's hard to pick... I might have to pull the old treat-or-treat move and try to hit the same shop a few times throughout the day and change my clothes.
here's what's available this year: www.freecomicbookday.com/Home/1/1/27/981
definitely want the Attack On Titan one, Secret Wars, and Streetfighter.

I might go check it out this year. My LCS I think allows three or four, but he only has three or four options, so it is what it is. He also cleans out the junk from his back issue stock. He doesn't have a regular bargain bin stuff, but what would be in a bargain bin if he had one is available for free on FCBD.
I know of some shops not too far away who have fantastic events on FCBD, but the lines are super long, understandably. Not sure if I feel like going this year, even though I have the time to do it right now.

My LCS always makes a big deal out of FCBD. They get cosplayers in comic costumes to appear, the local Star Wars Stormtrooper brigade in full armor as well, give out pieces of cake, and other stuff. I think it was last year they even had a comic themed backdrop that they would take your picture with cardboard cut-out comic sound effects you could add (Pow!, Zap!, etc) and masks you could wear. They limit you to one or two comics per person, but they run a food drive for the local food bank on FCBD and if you bring donations they'll let you take as many different comics as you want. We've made it a tradition to stop at the grocery store and pick up a couple bags of non-perishable groceries before heading to the shop, and then leave with a fist full of comics. Good times.

Every year I help out my comic shop for FCBD; it's always fun to do and makes for great times. This year, my shop opened up a second shop and they're going all out. My shop is having a Free Comic Con Day. thecomicbug.com/We're having close to 70-ish artists and writers sell their wares; along with food trucks, sponsored drinks and all sorts of awesomeness. If you're in the Southern California area, come to this place for awesomeoness. As for myself, all pull members get to pick 5 comics from the list. The public I think gets 4, children under 10 get 2....

I'm going to try and take my boys if they want to go this year. My wife took them, I think two years back, I had to work, but we missed last year for whatever reason. I don't think I've been to one since 2011, in which I took them, but then they were a lot younger. They may enjoy it more this time around being 8 and 11.

That sounds very similar to this cool shop in Rancho Cucamonga, but they allow you to take one of everything I believe. They have cosplayers, the Star Wars guys, a guy dressed as Wolverine with an X-Men themed motorcycle and giant sentinel statue, a ton of local creators, free hot dogs, and a video game tournament. The place is so incredibly packed though that you're pretty much shuffled in and out of the store so it's impossible to actually make a purchase to support the place on FCBD, but it did make me come back several times to purchase comics and supplies since then.

There's a comic shop near us that does an amazing job for FCBD, renting out a neighboring store and having all sorts of kid-friendly activities. They truly make an event out of it -- almost feels like a miniature convention. They even have local artists set up booths.
But, the negative side to this is that I've never once made it to my own LCS for FCBD. MUCH better store, but they don't pull of spectacle the way this place does.

It's always busy at Neptune Comics as well on FCBD, but they make time for purchases as well. I usually pick up my regular week's worth of comics on Saturday as well, but with Convergence I have to pick up the specials off the wall, so maybe I'll go early for them this year.

I see a half dozen must-haves (Convergence, Secret Wars, Tick, Captain Canuck, 2000 AD and Doctor Who) and a bunch I may pick up. Is there no Atomic Robo? That'd be a first...

My LCS is Things From Another World, the retail branch of Dark Horse. They bring in creators and the local Star Wars stormtroopers, have a coloring contest for kids, and put a lot of things on sale. Best of all, their limit is 10 FCBD comics per person - but you have to get there early or there won't be 10 different comics left!

I didn't know TFAW was a retail division of Dark Horse, or that they had a storefront. That's awesome. They're a great online store. And a great publisher.
