I'm not sure it's the exact same costume, but he wore one similar, if not identical, in the $ 1 giant size Adventure Comics around that same time period.
On a completely different note, who doesn't love Bill Sienkiewicz back on a Batman title, or Denys Cowan for that matter ?

I always liked this look as a kid, it's goofy but fun none the less. I didn't care for the way Helena reacted here but it was a fun read anyway.

Forgive me for being a stick in the mud. I was SO excited about this comic before I read the preview. This version of the Huntress is my favorite super-heroine ever. After I read the preview I was left wondering, "Why is Helena being such a jerk?" Then I read the story. My mind filled with so many questions: WHY is Helena's character so completely off? She was always cool and rational before.
WHY does Helena complain, gripe, and act so arrogantly in just about every panel? She was never like that before.
WHAT in the world is going on here?
After calming down I tried to figure out where this story is going. Surely, all of my guesses are wrong, but here goes...
Maybe Huntress is being a jerk to Robin because sometimes that's the way we treat someone that we are interested in, but they don't reciprocate. Maybe she was panic-ing the whole issue out of concern for Dick. Maybe she blew up the Batmobile and sacrificed herself out of love for Dick. Of course, if any of this were true it wouldn't make any sense for her to have just left Dick alone with the Russian Superman.
Maybe Helena Wayne's character has been retconned into being a nagging woman in order to service Robin's upcoming decision to become the new Batman. I wonder if issue #2 will feature Richard Grayson donning a Bat-cowl?
Maybe Len Wein wants fans of the pre-Crisis Earth-2 to say good-bye to this version of Helena Wayne and fully embrace the New 52 version? So he wrote the pre-Crisis version as a snotty, nagging woman whose impulsiveness leads to her own death? All so that we will like the new 52 version?
Maybe Len Wein just wanted to honor Earth 2 Batman's death in an explosion by having his daughter die in an explosion too? Maybe Huntress parachuted out of the Batmobile before it exploded? What made her think that an exploding Batmobile would hurt Superman anyway? She was never that stupid before. Maybe I think too much and should just enjoy the awesome art? Even if I didn't like the story?

I haven't read this yet; just glanced at the beautiful art.
Helena Wayne, the daughter of Bruce and Selina, is one of my favorite Bronze Age characters. I'm very anxious after reading your spoilers to see what the heck is going on, esp from Paul Levitz, her creator, of all people.

I so want to like every Helena Wayne story I read.

I had the same concerns as you so I don't think you were misinterpreting anything, she did seem really out of character for some reason and I'm not really sure why. Hopefully it will make sense in the second part because other than her characterization there was a lot to like here.

While I would prefer to be wrong, it makes me feel a bit better to know that another fan agrees with me. I kind of missed all the goodness of this issue because I was so upset about Helena's characterization. Perhaps I should read it again, ignoring the Huntress' words, and look for all of the other good things to enjoy.
Thanks, thwhtguardian!

I agree with you guys.
As you can see from the review thread I started, this series has been very mixed, but, the highlights have been excellent.
Despite her characterization being non-traditional in this issue, I kind of went with it. Yeah, it's not how she's been written before, but, maybe considering the circumstances of death for an entire city and having to face down the Kryptonian Komrade, it makes sense.
BTW, FWIW, this was written by Len Wein, not Paul Levitz.
I hadn't read that Death of Batman issue in 30 years or so and didn't pick up on the explosion connection. Nice call Earth 2 Flash !

I checked back and I was the one who first made that Len Wein/Paul Levitz mistake. Sorry.
I am still hoping that this series will sell well and that DC will give some version of Helena Wayne another ongoing title. I'm thinking that her role in Earth 2: Society isn't going to be all that big.

She was the only reason I kept reading Worlds Finest, I especially loved her team up with Damian.

The original Helena Wayne is still my favorite version of Huntress, and yes, I hope we see her more post-Convergence.

I love Helena Wayne...blah..blah...blah...I hope she gets her own series...blah...blah...blah...
She was the only reason I kept reading Worlds Finest, I especially loved her team up with Damian. My daughters and I loved the Helena/Damian dynamic and team-up too. That had to be the highlight of that series.
Personally, I would love to see a pre-Crisis Huntress/New 52 Huntress team-up.

No explanation for the out of character out bursts, though we did see it at least mentioned at the end.
