So, House Democrats want to pass a bill that would make all elections paid holidays for federal employees, includes incentives for private businesses to do the same and further incentives that would encourage more federal employees to be politically active...and Mitch McConnell says he'd never allow it up for a vote in the Senate as its "A power grab" by the democrats.
How is encouraging more people to vote and participate in elections a power grab?

How is encouraging more people to vote and participate in elections a power grab? Because the Republicans need low turnout to get enough numbers to win. Duh.

That seems to be the message, but to say so boldly in public? That's a new low.

How is encouraging more people to vote and participate in elections a power grab? I've added "Making it easier to vote is a "power grab" by the Democrats" to the "power grab by the Democrats" section of the Big Golden Book of Republican Talking Points.

You're wasting your time investing yourself in American politics. Nothing ever changes, and the country is run under the table by mega corporations utilizing capitalistic strife to the nth degree anyway. Save yourselves.

Because the Republicans need low turnout to get enough numbers to win. Duh. That's a new low. If that hasn't been the theme of the GOP for the last decade, I don't know what is. But seriously, I agree, it seems odd they would be so blunt about it. They used to at least put in a shred of effort not to appear nakedly corrupt, but they don't seem to care anymore.

I certainly can't understand why Americans continue to vote for Republicans and Democrats, although it's the system that is at fault.
And I am not speaking from a privileged position. Us Brits (well, not me) keep voting in Conservative or Labour.

Freeze ourselves until after the apocalypse and the robot overlords have taken control. A personal time machine. Travel back to a simpler time when there were less politics or no politics. Live in a cave in the mountains as hermits, live off the land, stay stoned on marijuana. Genetics. Grow gills and slip back into the water only to be eaten by sharks. Start slowly walking North until you freeze to death in the Arctic Circle. Home made spaceship. Launch away from the craziness only to explode in your crude space ship. The list of options is endless

When your supporters don't care that you're a bunch of scumbags, why should you be anything other than what you actually are?

Us Brits (well, not me) keep voting in Conservative or Labour. I am not a democrat but I usually vote for Dems - it's the lesser of two evils for me. I think America is just too damn big to ever be governed in an intelligent & humane manner.

Brian, my friend, in 2020, and tell your friends, I want you all to vote for an independent. I want to see a Congress and Senate filled entirely with independents. Could you do that for me?

That would never happen. The way it is as a two party system an independent would never win. Plus IMO most independents skew towards the Democratic party anyway.
