This one really has me scratching my head, so Bernie tweets out "“China – not exactly seen as a model when it comes to human rights – provides 14 weeks of paid maternity leave. The US provides zero.”
And James Wood responds with "China has notoriously killed female infants for population control, you utter moron,”
Did he miss the part where Bernie says that China is not model state in the realm of human rights? I would think that blanket statement would cover their heinous population control methods, which is juxtaposed with our own short coming when it comes to maternity leave. I mean, it seems obvious to me that he's not saying, "China is way better than us!" but rather, "Those guys are the supposed 'bad guys' and yet even they give out paid maternity leave, so where does that leave us?" It's a thought provoking question, and one that Woods some how failed to grasp...

And yet the right is more than happy to be compared to the most extreme and repressive regimes on Earth when you're talking about the Death Penalty or "Border Security". Really this shouldn't be surprising. Reading comprehension isn't a big thing for most on the right.

Really this shouldn't be surprising. Reading comprehension isn't a big thing for most on the right. Neither is irony, the appreciation of which requires more wit than they can muster. The inability to process irony probably deserves our pity, as it is symptomatic of schizophrenia, the inability to distinguish what is real.

James Woods has, I take it, long harbored some really fascinating ideas that we should all consider grounds for fruitful & respectful discussion. Just like the rest of the extreme Right.
Comparing these interesting individuals to schizophrenics is an appalling insult. Unless you're saying that schizophrenics also harbor some really fascinating ideals that we should all consider grounds for fruitful & respectful discussion. Then it's OK, I guess.

Certainly meant no disrespect to schizophrenics, who unlike the right-wingers, have no control over how God made them.

Did you see what Benjamin Netanyahu said? I have no comment because there is no way to be respectful.

That is ... ummm ... yeah. Interesting, to put it mildly.
Speaking of the Holocaust, while idly looking up the 2009 obit for my Israeli-American uncle* a few minutes ago I came across the following comment by his widow -- "He had a very full career. He was very proud of his work in the Eichmann trial." I had no idea. I know he was a journalist for his first 11 years or so in Israel (where he moved in 1951); the obit says he joined the Government Press Office in 1958, & he became publications director and spokesman for the Weizmann Institute of Science near Tel Aviv in 1962. Eichmann stood trial in 1961.
*technically my half-uncle, I suppose, since he was my maternal grandfather's older son by his second wife after he & my grandmother divorced, but I'm not really sure "half-uncle" is a generally recognized distinction. If it is, I guess his & his younger brother's kids would be my ... hmmm ... half-cousins?

And now Jon Voight has a less than adequate understanding of the terms progressive and communist. Who knew that Teddy Roosevelt was a Commie.
Which begs the bigger question of...who really cares what "celebrities" think about anything outside whatever it is that caused their celebrity? Because, for the most part James Woods', John Voight's or George Clooney's political opinions are no more insightful or interesting than Bob down at the Piggly-Wiggly or Benedict the barista. This is a phenomenon that I am never going to understand.

Biden's not running (as I had predicted). . so that really does mean that it's most likely Hillary takes the nom.
I hope that Sanders has energized the crowd enough to go and vote.
hell, I wish Hillary would offer Sanders the VP slot.

To focus on Canada for a moment: Stephen Harper is no longer our Prime Minister! Now we are so happy, we do the dance of joy!! Di-di-di-di di-di-di-di...

I have not been watching the Benghazi Witchhunt Hearings but I have been looking at the transcripts and it looks like Hillary is totally pwning the congressional GOP dingdongs, despite all their gotcha questions that probably looked good in the echo chamber.

This is a phenomenon that I am never going to understand. As a veteran of the media, I guess the media are to blame. Take away the spotlight & these effing idiots wouldn't be celebrities in the first place. Then again, they keep getting ink, footage, pixels or whatever because the slope-browed, slack-jawed public eats that crap up. Celebrity culture has long made my skin crawl. Various sports' insistence (with, again, media connivance) to "celebretize" certain players has a lot to do with my loathing for the NFL & NBA, for instance, & also to do with my increasing unhappiness with various other entertainment fields. *sigh*

Watching the hearings today was as exciting as watching any great sports event.
I was no enormous fan of Hillary, certainly respected her, but wasn't passionate about her candidacy. Today's attempt to impugn her (admittedly, by as pitiful a group of opponents as the '62 Mets led by a chairman who makes The Hills Have Eyes guy look like Thomas Jefferson) turned into a nine-plus hour paean to her competence, intelligence, grace under pressure and ability to serve as President.
