I lost weight recently without having to do anything at all (and no, I didn't have a limb amputated or anything like that)!
I've long suspected that my bathroom scale (which is digital) is not properly calibrated, so last night, I did a little test. I took two five-pound weights and placed them on the scale, and the reading showed 11 pounds. Next, I upped it to two ten-pound weights, and it showed 21.5 pounds. Lastly, I put two 25-pound weights on it and it read 52.5 pounds.
Because of rounding and not being able to say for certain that it is increasing in a linear pattern (although it sure looks like it), I've concluded that it is probably adding somewhere between 8-12 pounds onto my reading when I step onto it, which puts me into the 220-225 range instead of the 230-235 range.
I'm going to the doctor for my annual check-up later this month (or early next, depending when he can get me in) and will weigh myself on his scale, which hopefully is properly calibrated, but this gives me some hope that my efforts at eating better (and less) are paying off.
Now, if I could just get off my rear-end and exercise a little more...

I've been maintaining at the moment. Around 185-190. I haven't gotten around to exercising yet. But I am sticking to my diet so far. Though I did have a cheeseburger and fries last week. The first one I have had since June. There's not really a valid excuse for me slacking on my exercise, other than after work I just don't have the time/energy with what I have to do around the house and wanting some down time to relax. Before I know it'll be winter and biking will be out of the picture.

Hi all - still here, still not made much (if any) progress, but have now started up the bike commuting to yet another new office - 15 miles each way, so a decent calorie burn. Currently lurking just under 190, after getting perilously close to 200 recently. Would really like to get under 180 by the end of the year Nearly a month on, one step forward one step back

I have gotten down from 187 to 185...
Is it normal for BMI (I think that's the right term) to fluctuate from day to day? I get 27, 25, 26, 24....

it took me over 7 weeks to fully recover from my injury, and as we are now in Oct, I'm back on my plan.
struggling to get back on, as 6+ weeks of eating crap is forcing me to go back to my healthy eating habits, and I'm struggling thus far.
will weigh myself on Sat, but I'm absolutely sure I'm over 200 again. . so really need to work to get back down in the 180's.
just need to get serious on it.

Thanks for responding everyone. It's October and it's a good time to make a push to get your weight down before the eating season officially starts. badwolf, it's normal to for weight to fluctuate day to day. It depends on what a person might have eaten the day before that might cause water detention. That's why it's good to weigh yourself once a week. ( Although, I weigh myself every day.)

I just came back from my gym and swam a half mile and did some bicycle work and weigh myself and at 248 and possibly gained 13 pounds due to stress and working with the club that run. I really feel bad about it. Need to work on this more and start thinking about it.

Here we go again. I finally weighed myself this morning and was 207.8. I prepared my food today and want to drop a quick 5 for this Sunday’s NYCCC. Too much binge eating this year and I’m going to reverse it. I'm down to 203.8 this morning. I ate off plan Sunday but it's still a 4.4 loss since Oct 1st.

I'm done to 245 now ... the reason for that is that I cut back the amount of food that I ate and eating more healthier and having my meals 75 percent vegetarian and 25 percent meat. I just had vegetarian breakfast this morning ... no meats at all and cut back on my sweets as well too.

Weighed in at my allergist this morning and according to them I've lost 4 pounds since the last time my physician weighed me last month!

Weighed in at 202 this morning. This current phase has me down 5.8 pounds. It has really been a tough 2 weeks , work wise. I've been eating bad food, but not enough of it , it seems.

This morning at my physician's office I weighed in at 232 pounds so still losing weight. On February 9 of this year they weighed me at 285 pounds. That makes my total weightless since then 53 pounds!

Awesome job , Jesse ! I'm at 201. I've been working 11 hour days delivering pounds of election mail and dropped 1 pound since last I checked in.

Found out a few days ago one of my best friend is having her wedding 6 months from now. I'm planning to come overseas to be there. I've known her for about 16 years. So I've decided to really try to dedicate my time and energy to eating right, sticking to a fitness routine, and most importantly not getting discouraged to the point of quitting when there is a bump in the road. I was in a pretty bad place all of October with my overall being. Hopefully this will be just what the doctor ordered in regards to getting my life in order. I already feel better mentally after this past week.
