More favorites from my collection. Very nice. I'm not actually familiar with any of those three albums in their entirety, although I know certain tracks from them all, of course. I'll see you your late '70s rock albums and raise you three of my most prized late '60s psychedelic LPs: first The Notorious Byrd Brothers by The Byrds (stereo UK first pressing from April 1968)... Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles (stereo U.S. first pressing from November 1967)... ...and one of my all-time most cherished pieces of vinyl, the A Gift from a Flower to a Garden box set by Donovan (stereo UK first pressing from April 1968). The box is a little bit dog-eared, but the vinyl and the colour inserts are absolutely pristine...

I've got near complete vinyl collections of every Duran Duran, Iron Maiden and Megadeth record. Awesome! I remember finding an Iron Maiden import as a kid at a flea-market that was shaped like circular saw blade. I've never been able to find it again and I've always kicked myself for not picking it up. That sounds like the 1988 'Tell Tales' Interview picture disc with Bruce Dickinson and life on the road with Iron Maiden...there were 2 versions, one with a black edge and one with a red edge, but both limited.

I've been pondering getting into vinyl collecting for awhile now. If I do decide to do this, I think I'm going to start with Roxy Music's albums. Beyond the fact that the music is amazing, the covers are some of the most stylish and sexiest I've ever seen.

Roxy Music was a big influence on two of my favourites, Duran Duran & The Cure.
Think I'll go rev up "Never Enough" by the Cure on my turntable...I have this 2LP remix set from 1988....

I like The Cure a lot. I'm still surprised that Robert Smith wasn't the main inspiration for Dream in The Sandman.

I think that actually came out in 1990, but I have that on vinyl too. "Never Enough" is one of my all-time favourite Cure songs. I also have the Staring at the Sea and Galore singles collections on CD, along with the limited edition 2xCD version of The Cure's Greatest Hits. That's my entire Cure collection.

I still have my turntable that I upgraded in 1990, unfortunately it was/is not compatible with my Surround Sound Receiver so I gave my albums(from late 60's/early 70's)away and the turntable is now just decoration. TECHNICS QUARTZ DIRECT DRIVE SLQD22

I still have a bunch of old albums from the days when vinyl was all you could get. I have an old Bang & Olafson turntable connected to the stereo and a USB turntable as well. But my old albums saw a good amount of use back in the day and are badly in need of cleaning to sound decent again. What do you all recommend as the best cleaning methods? Thanks.

But my old albums saw a good amount of use back in the day and are badly in need of cleaning to sound decent again. What do you all recommend as the best cleaning methods? Thanks. Well, I own an Okki Nokki vacuum record cleaning machine, but excellent though they are, the price tag probably means that it'd be overkill for someone who's not an avid collector with at least three or four hundred LPs, I'd say. I have heard very good things about the Disco-Antistat, which here in the UK retails for around £40 (about $62). It's a record bath type machine, which requires you to manually rotate the LP in a cleaning solution. Do a search on YouTube, there are videos of people using them and reviewing them. A much more affordable option is to get a bottle of record cleaning solution for around £10 (the Clear Groove stuff is supposed to be pretty good) and some non-abrasive microfiber cloths. On a day-to-day basis, many vinyl fans will tell you that having an anti-static carbon fiber brush to remove excess dust from an LP's surface prior to playing is essential. Personally, my opinion is that dusting (not actual cleaning, mind) is mostly overdone. LPs attract dust like a lottery winner attracts friends and, unless a record is very, very dusty -- in which case it should be properly cleaned before playing -- the truth is that most dust or fluff particles will be moved out of the way by the stylus as the record plays, hardly effecting playback at all. Still, a carbon fiber brush is useful for those LPs that are extra dusty.

I used to have all the Roxy Music albums on vinyl and I think my older brother has them all at his house now, along with all our other vinyl - I don't have a turn-table, so I'm happy for him to keep them.
Unfortunately, most of them were cheap Canadian editions with no interior art or photos - the jackets didn't even fold open, so if I did have a turntable I'd probably be looking for the original UK releases.

A couple of vinyl "rarities" in my meager collection include:
The Pearl Jam fan club record from 1994/5 (Megos!)
Three of the six different covers for Led Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door, still in the brown paper wrapper, with uncolored inner sleeve
Dread Zeppelin's Immigrant Song/Hey, Hey, What Can I Do on numbered, clear vinyl (mine is #100)

Had to get this one on vinyl too...The Cure's Burn from The Crow...it was released as a promo but not an official single.... Incidentally, using The Cure in the movie was a tip of the hat to the band as it influenced the original comic book...James O'Barr, the creator of The Crow, reprinted the lyrics to the song "The Hanging Garden" by The Cure on an entire page.

The Crow soundtrack is a stand-out from the decade. In addition to The Cure (who led the proceedings), you had NiN's cover of Joy Division's Dead Souls, Rollins covering Suicide's Ghost Rider (yup, that one) and Rage's Darkness. Great record. Never knew Burn was issued on vinyl.
