Young Americans is one of the few 70s Bowie albums I don't know well, though I think I've heard about every song on it at one time or another, and of course the title track and Fame have always been radio staples. I don't even have a copy of the cd. Should remedy that sometime.

Glad to see the new Duran Duran album 'Paper Gods' (Sept 2015) will also be on vinyl but it's being packaged with a lousy t-shirt and sold as a deluxe package.
Honestly, the band should hire me to do their album art and t-shirts since I won't be caught alive wearing that shi**y t-shirt.

"Fascination," written with Luther Vandross features probably my favorite saxophone solo by David Sanborn. Then of course you get "Across the Universe" and "Fame" with backing vocals and guitar by John Lennon. Great record. Seek out the 2007 Collectors' Edition for bonus tracks which include Bowie's Dick Cavett Show performances and interview.

My favorite Bowie album after Ziggy Stardust and before Low would have to be Station to Station. It seems to get lost in the shuffle, being between his glam zenith and the Berlin years, but it's a great album.

LOVE that album.

I went away on holiday to Totnes in South Devon a couple of weeks ago and managed to pick up some new vinyl acquisitions from the second hand record shops there. My most prized finds were original first pressings of The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night and Yellow Submarine albums, from 1964 and 1969 respectively. I got both for a very good price and the A Hard Day's Night is in pretty nice condition overall, while the Yellow Submarine is near mint. I also picked up two "best ofs" featuring Hank Williams and Scott Walker, because they're both artists that I want to explore more. I got some old favourites that I've never owned before on vinyl too, like Bobbie Gentry's Touch Them With Love, The Jackson's Triumph, and Simon & Garfunkel's Bookends and Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme.

Just noticed this thread. I'm still using (though not often, since it's in the front of the house & that's where I watch movies; music happens here in the back in my bedroom, so I rely on CDs played on the ghetto blaster on my chest of drawers) the basic stereo set-up I bought in 5/78 at the end of my freshman year in college -- Pioneer PL-516 turntable (belt-driven), Pioneer SA-7500II amp (45 watts), KLH speakers (god knows what number ... I'd have to tip 'em over to look on the back, & they're as big & at least as heavy as dorm fridges, & besides they're topped by stacks of books on music). The speakers were re-coned when we lived in the New Orleans area, so about 26 years ago.
I'm on tape deck no. 5 or so & CD player no. 2, along with CD recorder no. 1. Otherwise, original equipment. It's not just cheapness &/or an "if-it-ain't-broke-don't-replace-it" mentality; the classics can't really be improved on, or so I've been told by muso friends on FB who happened to catch a glimpse of the stereo when I posted pix of one of my cats lying atop the turntable's dust cover.

A post from Dan and no mention of the Eagles album pix that preceded his comments. Dan is definitely not at full-strength yet

I just ignored all the posts about music (as opposed to stereo gear), because the chances I'll have any interest whatsoever in what's featured are, let's face it, extremely slim. Same reason I stopped paying attention to the couple of music threads while they were still brand new. It's not that other people's tastes tend to be soul-crushingly pedestrian at best & abominably horrible ato worst, but rather that ... uh ...
... ummm ...
... OK, never mind.

Just don't tell Dan that Brother Power checked into the Hotel California and couldn't check out, which is why #3 never made it to the stands..... -M

One thing about The Eagles that's interesting:
One member ( a late arrival) is respected and beloved by many-Joe Walsh One member-hated and reviled by many (including his bandmates)-Don Henley
Thereby creating balance in the universe

( Emphasis mine) The Eagles did their best stuff before Joe Walsh joined, in my humble opinion. The Bernie Leadon era (i.e. the first four albums -- which is the period that the Greatest Hits pictured above covers) is the real deal, as far as I'm concerned. Once Leadon left, the Eagles lost a whole lot of their country/bluegrass sound and moved much more into AOR.
