I'm also experiencing a significant dilemma regarding New Mutants #98 right now. I'm almost certainly going to sell mine, but I love re-reading that series from beginning to end and, even though it was during the Liefeld stretch, not having one issue is seriously going to bug me. No need to sell then. Right? For $200+? Thus the struggle.

No need to sell then. Right? For $200+? Thus the struggle. That book is not coming down. It hasn't and it won't. You'll get $500.00 for it in ten years and the inch think book won't cramp your living space or put your OCD about having 1-97, 99-100 on the frizzle. Now if the issue is having Liefield comics hanging around then perhaps you should part with it.

For $200+? Thus the struggle. That book is not coming down. It hasn't and it won't. I think that really depends on how the Deadpool film does. Much of the book's value is based more on speculation about the character gaining wider appeal than it is on fans already seeking out the book. I sold my first appearance of Star Lord right before Guardians of the Galaxy was released, and I don't regret it. Had that movie bombed, the book would now be worthless again.

Having holes in runs causes a great disturbance in my inner force.
My biggest problem is that I pretty much want to own everything. So my compromise has been to convince myself that I'd rather have 200 fifty cent bin comics than one $100 key; and I use trades and digital to fill in those expensive holes.
I think I've only spent over $50 for a book a dozen or so times in my life, probably for those JLA B&Bs, elusive Flaming Carrots, and a few hardcovers.

I don't have the urge to own everything, and don't mind holes in my collection but there are times when I find that issues I do want are crazy expensive and so I too use digital. It makes sense to me, I buy to read so as long as I get the story I don't particularly care what format it's in.

Offer me an Action #1 in mint or in fair, and I'd take the fair copy. As I'd never sell either, and I'd be too scared to open and read the mint copy.

Though when I have a big 'to read' pile like I do now I'll switch gears and hunt for good deals on more expensive stuff I want.

I'd read it, because I have to read all my comics. Then I would probably leave it in a pile in the closet and then the cat would pee on it or something. This is why I can't have nice things.

New Mutants #98 is one that wouldn't be hard keep in a Deadpool trade. Those Deadpool trades seem to sell pretty well and stay in print better than some other Marvel trades.

Issues harder to find than those around it hmmm.... How about the Stephen platt issues of Moon Knight. What was the draw with him? Was it because he did not do much art for marvel? Issues 55 and 56 seem to be tough to find for no other reason than his name is on the cover.

A great frustration for me has been acquiring the final issues of EC's horror titles, which suffered from low distribution as a result of the Senate sub-committee hearings. Tales From The Crypt #46, Vault of Horror #40, and Haunt of Fear #28 command a premium simply because fewer of them ever made it to market.
Other so-called "sunset" issues like Captain America Comics #75 and All-Star Comics #57 are difficult to find and very expensive when one can, presumably because diminished interest at the time of publication translates into fewer copies surviving.
The grand-daddy of all hard-to-find comics in the middle of a run may be Suspense Comics #3, valued at 10-20 times the issues around it for reasons that have never been clear to me, but probably amount to low war-time distribution.

Deadpool's been hot for a decade now though. I don't think the movie will have a huge impact on NM98 either way. He's the next Wolverine and Marvel is really putting a lot of effort into making him the hot character at Marvel. I think if his popularity is going to fade it will do so slowly, like 90's Ghost Rider.

Deadpool's been hot for a decade now though. Thus my point, because New Mutants #98 hasn't been. The increase in value and demand is being generated by speculation over the film.

I didn't realize the later ECs were much harder to find than the others. Vault #40 is one of the two dozen or so ECs I have. I was able to get it signed by Johnny Craig a year after I got it.
