Uncanny X-men - Cullen Bunn & Greg Land, featuring Magneto, Sabretooth, Psylocke, Mystique and Fantomex. Pass!
Angela - pass
Karnak - Warren Ellis. Will give a try, but still have close to zero interest in the Inhumans
Howling Commandos of SHIELD - Frank Barbiere and Brent Schoonover. What? Will give it a couple of issues, but that's a hard sell.
Daredevil, co-starring Gambit - Soule and Garney. Waid gone and replaced by my least favourite X-person. Bleh.
Venom: Spaceknight - Robbie Thompson and Ariel Olivetti. Pass.
Extraordinary X-Men - Lemire and Humberto Ramos. Storm, Old Man Logan, Nightcrawler, the young Jean Grey, Colossus, Magik and Iceman. Will give it a go, but really not a fan of Ramos.

More details announced-The Scarlet Witch series will be written by James Robinson, no word on art.
There will be a Carnage series written by comics veteran Gerry Conway with art by Mike Perkins.
a new Ultimates book by Al Ewing with art by Kenneth Rocafort
Spider-Woman (who seems to be pregnant-Hawkeye's baby?) by Dennis Hopeless and Javier ROdriguez
The Illuminati book is by Josh Williamson and Shawn Crystal. The book features what looks like The Hood, Absorbing Man, Titania, Mr Hyde, Black Ant (Eric O’Grady) and more.
A Vision book by Tom King (of Grayson) with art by Gabriel Walta
Bleeding Cool and CBR are both updating constantly as creative teams are announced in advance of solicitations (it's the last week of the month so Previews for August orders are due, Sept solicitations will come out in July and full solicits for all these books in August likely, but early pre-SDCC announcements gets the hype ball rolling).

So Squirrel Girl and Silver Surfer will survive? Those are the two books that I spend-money care about. I'm sure I'll get the Warren Ellis book in trade, too.
This is looking like a really solid line-up. I haven't been this excited for Marvel stuff in well over a decade.

4chan has a bunch of previews... alot of the art is TERRIBLE.
Ultimates is re-titled Mighty Avengers... Monica Rambeau, Blue Marvel, and Ms. America on the cover.
New Avengers is probably the weirdest one...Sunspot, Hawkeye (Clint), Hulkling, a guy I think is Wiccan, and a couple others.
Karnak with Warren Ellis will be an interesting test... can a character that has no fan base and no business having an ongoing sell on the strength of a 'name' writer?
Guardians of the Galaxy does indeed have Thing on the cover... Starlord also looks female... I'm thinking something happens to Peter Quill and that's really Kitty Pryde in the costume... the hair style matches, too.
Quite a few titles there that I can't see reaching 12 issues.. it'll be really interesting to see if 1 or 2 of those turn out to be break out hits, and which.

Look's like I'll be sticking with Silver Surfer, Ragnarok and my three Image titles. It seems to me that Marvel is getting too cute with their lineup. Maybe they're desperately trying to keep up with Image in terms of "innovation"? One thing is clear to me is that there doesn't seem to be much crossover from the films to the comics and Marvel knows this. If you're a kid who's a fan of the Avengers, Thor or Cap movies and you decide to check out these new titles, you're in for a surprise. Diversity is great, but it seems like they took most of their characters, threw them in a blender, and assigned creative teams to whatever came out. I'm not a fan of what Marvel and DC are doing right now overall. They remind me of two old guys going through a mid-life crisis.

Maybe they're desperately trying to keep up with Image in terms of "innovation"? One thing is clear to me is that there doesn't seem to be much crossover from the films to the comics and Marvel knows this. If you're a kid who's a fan of the Avengers, Thor or Cap movies and you decide to check out these new titles, you're in for a surprise. Diversity is great, but it seems like they took most of their characters, threw them in a blender, and assigned creative teams to whatever came out. I'm not a fan of what Marvel and DC are doing right now overall. They remind me of two old guys going through a mid-life crisis. As a friend of mine who is a very casual comic fan said, "they're calling it all new and all different for a reason, things are changing and people are going to be butt hurt because 'oh no, they're changing what I know' but the whole point of Marvel was always innovation and the House of Ideas, throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, but they lost that int he 90s and just now seem to be getting that back." I don't necessarily agree with him, but there is some "truthiness*" to what he says. -M *TM Stephen Colbert I see what he's saying, and I realize now as an older and wiser fan that a lot of the stuff I view as "iconic" and "classic" was itself a change from what came before, but I still think that the Marvel of, say, the early 70's when a lot of wacky ideas were being thrown around still had a solid core of Spidey, FF, Avengers, etc, as well as all the more innovative stuff on the fringes. I don't think Marvel or DC has a solid base right now. Also, I only think Lee, Kirby, Ditko, Romita Sr. and a few others spread out through the Bronze Age should be associated with "The House of Ideas." The real House is Image nowadays.  |

I'd rather see what they are doing now than them be moribund or produce the kind of schlock the 90s saw, but yeah some of it is kid of wtf. I'll probably subscribe to the Doc Strange book and try a bunch of the rest on Unlimited to see if I like anything, but for the most part my days of having a pull list and buying new singles are done for the foreseeable future, so even if it were a more classic take I would be doing the same thing. I am not their target audience anymore whatever they do. Of course I'm not for DC or anyone else really unless as I have become very selective and what I buy is mostly in trade if it was released after 2000. -M |
