I was quickly coming to an end to buying monthly comics. I don't believe I was even making weekly visits, at this point, as I was getting so little stuff. That trend continued until I only bought collected volumes and the odd special project. Starman, one of the few monthlies I got, was coming to an end, as this featured the end of his trip to the past and the mystery of the Starman of 1951. We said goodbye, forever, to David Knight and pretty much said goodbye to Ted, as he was dead in the present and Jack has to leave him behind, in the past, though he helps bring him back into the hero game. I was so-so on Grand Guignol, but, the end of the series was well done. Tom Strong is back for more fun and the ABC line, Hellboy and Astro City were my few lifelines in the world of comics, in the New Millennium. My interests were starting to move into European reprints and, eventually, digital options for old material. American century continued to be great and Electropolis marked the return of Dean Motter to his "failed futurist" worlds, with a robot detective and some kinky supporting characters. Nice book that no one saw and ended up delayed, with a grand finale that combined two issues and the return of Mister X (and linked this to Terminal City and Mister X). Ministry of Space was a really cool alternative history, from Warren Ellis and Chris Weston; sort of Dan Dare-meets-Michael Moorcock. Super Friends was just for the sheer fun and nostalgia of it.

May 2001
Green Lantern #138 Kyle and Jade are sent to alien planet that was once at peace is now in civil turmoil as factions form and biological warfare. Nothing earth shattering but the most part I always enjoyed Kyle as GL.
New X-Men #114 At the behest of other readers at the shop I decided to give the X-Men a try again with Morrison getting on the title. I found Frank Quitely's art immediately jarring. I stuck with it for 15-20 issues before I gave it up. I did like this initial story Morrison did and for the most part for as long as I hung out. But the art was not my cup of tea.
Thor #37 I wasn't reading Thor at this point in the series, but it's a Jim Starlin cover ... so yeah the collector in me.
Ultimate Spider-Man #9 Spidey gets the crap kicked out of him from the Kingpin. And gets unmasked. And we are only at the 8th issue. This title (for the most part, I dropped off after Bagley left) is probably my favorite Spiderman stories, as they in concise arcs and don't meander around. Like the whole Ultimate clone saga was five or six issues. Bagley art is always welcome and for the most part Bendis did well enough for me with this title. Though tbh I really didn't know who he was. This is one of the few things of his I have read and enjoyed.
X-Treme X-Men #1 Bought it for the Larocca art and stuck with it from as long as he stayed on. There was a few good stories throughout but for the most part if you like his art it's a pretty book to look at. I can only remember one specific thing about those issues, and that was just a cringe/dad joke that didn't play out very well.
