Re: a 'ton of comics' 1 long box theorically holds 500 comics, but that is regular sided, without bag and board. I find in reality, with my comics bagged and not boarded, it runs more like 350-400. On average, they weigh about 55 lbs (at least they did last time I tried to ship them)... so I'm thinking 14K-15K would probably constitute a ton. Hey, now that I do that, that's about what I have if you don't include trades... funny, I never thought when my wife said that we have a ton of comics in the attic she meant it literally

Is this a Mike Zeck poster? It sure looks like it but there is no printed signature which I found he usually does beside his work (unless I am blind)

And while I am pondering posters of the past, who did this? Thor looks terrible....and the back of the Black Panther seems like a terrible idea. Why even feature him at all? For something that looks old, this looks terrible

I agree. Trimpe, either self-inked or possibly Sam Grainger. Whoever colored it probably didn't actually work for Marvel. A blonde Wasp??
Cei-U! Not one of Herb's best!

Ok so i just read a TPB OF Hulk 286-300 but when i get to what should be 296 featuring Rom it only has the beginning and end and no Rom. Also its the only issue in this collection that doesnt have the cover. Which by the way has Rom shooting at Hulk. Was this a case of copyrights etc of Rom? Kind of feel cheated and if i had bought this collection i would have been really pissed.

Marvel let all of those properties go when they no longer felt they were viable, and as such, they can't reprint the material in collections.

So do such issues fetch more $ because of this? Just curious.

I think there was some speculation ROM would appear in a guardians movie which until the whole licensing issues are worked out, is impossible. Still I recall that issue one of ROM going for $10-15 or so. Other issues and his crossovers are only $3-6 a pop.

I can get almost any issue of ROM for $2 or less, and most for $1, from any number of LCS here in the Pittsburgh area.

Marvel produced a couple (possibly more) posters, from Zeck Punisher cover art. I saw one at a toy store, in the early 90s. Marvel put out a bunch of posters, around then, most from cover art.

How much did ads help in the past at keeping the cover price down? Ad rates that publishers asked were based on how large they claimed their readership was. So ad rates charged varied significantly from publisher to publisher, from decade to decade. But regardless of that, I always read that the bulk of profits came from actual sales Until about the mid-70s (give or take a couple of years), when the bulk of their profits came from licensing. That has been the standard ever since.

Pro wrestling magazines were also like comics, in that they depended on sales; and, had a lot of dubious advertising within. I suspect the men's adventure and detective magazines were the same way.
