Why oh why doesn't Dc release TPB of the books from the 80's? I would like to read the Batman books from where Colan and Thomas started doing that series. There are a couple of trades of Gene Colan's Batman stuff out there... Vol. 1 from 2011 and Vol. 2 from 2018 and as you can see form the 7 year gap between volumes, sales didn't exactly set the world on fire. In fact, almost every time they have tired producing trades of 80s materials like that sales haven't been there to support them and most never ran to completion (there were exceptions-Suicide Squad and New Teen Titans come to mind). Several were solicited from that era and were cancelled before release because there wasn't enough pre-orders. Others got a volume or two out before sales declined to the point where they weren't viable anymore and fanboys ranted about unfinished series and that DC shouldn't started releasing a run in trade if they won't finish it, and since all sales data points to the fact it won't sell enough to complete the run (most series see a drop off of 30-50% on sales for each successive volume in the series) they have basically given up on a lot of those trade series now. So unless sales trends reverse themselves on these kind of volumes I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for many more like them. -M

Who apart from Mary herself has worn the Mary Marvel costume?
Some background to this. I was looking for an image for a roleplaying game I'm in, and was wondered if a blonde had ever worn the costume. I then realised that while I could think of multiple people who had worn Captain Marvel uniform--either 'permanently (Uncle Marvel, the Lieutenant Marvels, etc.) or as a one-off (Superman, Magnificus Sivana, etc)--I couldn't think of anyone else wearing Mary's costume.

Freckles Marvel, Dudley Batson's non-powered niece, was Mary's best friend and frequently appeared in an identical costume. She was first introduced in Wow Comics #35 (April 1948):

The main blond I can think of, from the series, was Beautia Sivana, though she usually appeared in Captain Marvel stories and I have never seen one (or don't recall) where she is up against Mary or helping her. Beautia turned face in her first appearance and I seem to recall she just kind of disappeared, when they introduced Georgina Sivana and Sivana Jr as antagonist for the Marvel Family. I haven't even come close to reading all of the Marvel Family stories; so, I could have easily missed it.

I mean sure, some of US would like them, but random 80s stories aren't going to sell to casual fans in the book store... I mean, if some like Ostrander's Spectre couldn't make it... what can? I'm not even sure Marvel is going to finish the original Star Wars epics.

Beautia occurred to me after I made my original post, especially as I knew her brother Magnificus had once posed as Captain Marvel to help Billy Batson out of a jam ( when Shazam was running a back-up in World's Finest). However, I can't find any instance of Beautia doing anything similar for Mary (possibly because Cap is a an adult when he transforms and Mary remains a teen).
There is Thunder (CeCe Beck) who first appeared in the Power of Shazam Annual during the 'Legends of Dead Earth' event, and later became a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.

I was sorting some of my Savage Sword issues and noticed in the Bud Plant ads on the back covers a listing for 4 volumes collecting the Spirit Dailies. I remember Eisner discussing working on the dailies in one of the interviews in Shop Talk, but I am not sure I have ever read any of the daily continuities of the strip. My question is-does anyone know if the dailies were included in any of the Spirit Archives volumes DC did, or were those only the Sunday supplements? I see the four volumes available at reasonable prices at Lonestar, but I am trying to avoid buying stuff in multiple formats any more and I plan on finishing the run of Archives if I can, so I don't want to pull the trigger on the volumes of dailies if they are in the Archives. Another related question-were the dailies ever reprinted in any of the Kitchen Sink runs or the Warren mags?

I have not read a lot of early Nova to know but is there a reason why the character disappeared from 1981 until 1989? Was he written off and they just felt no one was interested in the character?

Apparently he was being punished for being created by Marv Wolfman. For whatever reason, Marv was persona non grata around Marvel for a while after he left for DC. Spider-Woman was similarly mistreated around that time.

I need help for a class I'm giving!
I'm looking for a comic strip that was widely distributed online several years ago. I thought it would be easy to find, but it looks as if my query terms aren't specific enough...
It was about an old couple arguing, sitting on their porch, and consisted of the same image repeated again and again, with only the word bubbles changing. It quickly becomes clear that the old lady is trying to poison her husband.
Anyone knows what I'm talking about or where I could find that story?
Cheers!
