Here's a question-
Steve Gerber published Destroyer Duck to raise money to buy back Howard the Duck. Do you think he could actually have made any money with the property if he had won ?

Another one of my cosplay questions. I am toying with the idea of doing a Gambler costume. My question involves those discs hanging from his waistband. I believe they are an early form of watch fob (which would later evolve into the fob and chain gentlemen wore on their waistcoats). My question is does anyone know if their is a specific name for this style of fob, as searching for 'fob' gives me 100s of results on the later style. (Why the Gambler would be wearing two of these is a question for an another day. ) My only response to this Image is that this looks like tartanphantom . Not seeing it. Not showing enough leg.

What's so special about spinner racks? They bend you books if you leave them there too long.

What's so special about spinner racks? They bend you books if you leave them there too long. Nostalgia of a time when that is where we bought comics. Not nicely lined up on a wall in alphabetical order. But haphazardly put in a rack in front of other books. Who knows what treasures you will find behind the latest issue of Batman.

I can see the advertisement in Soldier of Fortune now to hiring the Tartan Phantom. That nickname was given to me 20 years ago by a bandmate in my Celtic band. He said I had the most uncanny way of appearing and disappearing from nowhere when least expected. The "tartan" portion he attributed to my kilt-wearing proclivity-- particularly when performing with that band.

With that beard and moustache, you could do an awesome 'Longbow Hunters' era Green Arrow.

I'll gladly take that comparison! Wish I still had the physique to get away with sporting the loincloth & armor, though.

Not exactly to buy back the property; it was to fund his lawsuit against Marvel. Quite honestly, I doubt he could have done much with it beyond what he had already done. His trouble meeting deadlines on the newspaper strip is what got him fired off of it and touched off the legal battle. Maybe if he did it in more of a long form, graphic novel type format, where he could develop things more. Really, it was more of a cult book that ended up as one of the early speculator books, with the first issue. After that, the sales dropped down significantly and settled into a norm. He'd also need a steady artistic partner, for consistency. Really, I think Howard was of the time and never really worked when that time had passed. It came along right about when SNL did, and stuff like National Lampoon was all the rage. It was an absurd time, with Nixon and Watergate and the Vietnam fallout, the Recession, corporatization....lot of weirdness in the 70s. I think, at best, he might have settled into a Doonesbury kind of thing, where he would occasionally be relevant and then just kind of drift along until current events spawned a really good idea, for a brief period.

(Although, now that I think of it, I don't actually know that tartanphantom lives in Scotland. I may be guilty of profiling based on his handle. )
