Hello! I'm new here! I'm from the U.S., mid-30s. I've been reading comics since I was a teen, on and off. The first comics I actually bought were CrossGen right when it launched. Rest in peace. I got most into comics about 10 years ago when I started checking out TPBs at the library and then buying ones I couldn't find. I definitely focused on DC at the time. For a long time, I also bought issues, mostly creator-owned stuff, small press, and zines.
I've subscribed to Marvel Unlimited for the last year, though, because I live far from any comic shops now and my income isn't great right now. The exception is Demon Days, only one of which I'm still missing actually. I also bought the first issue of Black Cloak because I want to support Meredith McClaren, but I can't keep up with the cost for now.
My favorite mainstream comics/characters are Silver Surfer followed closely by Swamp Thing. I've read almost every issue of SS, excepting only a few gaps in the MU app, most significantly issues 89-122. I'm on my second reading now, almost finished with Lee's original run. Off the top of my head, other favorite comics include Shadow Eyes, The Veil, Ms. Don't Touch Me, Sixteen Miles to Merricks, The Voyeur by Hernandez, the work's of Julia Gröfrer and Corey Reyyy Lewis, and Last Stop Before Toll.
I'm a firm believer in decentralization of the Internet, and Reddit in particular, so I'm to have found an independent alternative.
I take photos of comics in cafes sometimes and post them on Instagram. I can share the link if you're curious.

You're in luck - one of the members here, Cei-U!, literally wrote the book on comics in the 1940s. He might have something for you. I discovered The Spirit when Warren started reprinting them in the 70s. I read my first ECs around the same time. And I'm one of the few here (or anywhere) who still reads Prince Valiant in the Sunday newspaper every week! |

I'm a big fan of Eisner's The Spirit -- and, actually, lots of Eisner's other work too. I also enjoy classic EC horror and sci-fi comics, though I find them quite formulaic and can't read too many at one time. Jump on into some of the forum discussions and start contributing.
