My wife's dad had a huge collection of Louis Lamour paperbacks. And the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant I've enjoyed for many years. Have you read the last series of Covenant books? If not, I don't want to spoil anything, but I thought it ended kind of abruptly. Stephen R. Donaldson also did a two book series (Mirror of Her Dreams & A Man Rides Through, which I think are collected as Mordant's Need) that I really liked and I'm probably due to re-read again. I tried his "Gap Into..." series, but just couldn't get into it. I read the Mirror books back in the day but cant remember a thing about them. I also had the same reaction to the "Gap Into..." books. Ive read some of the newer books, and a good friend who worships them has urged me to finish them, but I find that I struggle to concentrate on novels long enough to finish them. It must be years of comics reducing my attention span. The Mirror books were the ones where they worked magic through the use of curved mirrors, but would go insane if they looked into a flat one. The protagonist went through a mirror and brought a woman from our world back to his and they thought she was a powerful magician because her apartment was decorated with dozens of flat mirrors. And chaos ensues.

Hi, dr_cyclops/Dino here. At the risk of name dropping, I am a close friend to Cei-U/Kurt. He is the man! Every bit of art you see from me, came from learning so much from him. At times some may think; 'Wow, that doc1eye guy is out of line with Cei-U.' Don't worry, Cei-U will get on board and destroy it very soon. Should you ever read a post that is so devoid of real facts, You can call me out on it. I love having fun, to the point of making up stuff. If the admins can add a title to my username: 'Lies about comics', that would help a lot. I love classic comics, and the CBR board came through for me so many times in the past. I'm here to do just two things, read comics and have fun. And I'm all out of comicbooks. Thank you for having me here. Can't wait to contribute or make stuff up.

From the avatar, I'm guessing you're an Avenged Sevenfold fan? Well...no. Avenged Sevenfold used a piece of Public Domain clip-art for their band. Turned-out they couldn't copyright it. My image, while similar, is unique, and copyrightable. Nevertheless, the original piece is public domain. I guess you can't copyright a skull with bat-wings unless you alter it enough. I'm content with my variation. Note: the one eye, among other things. Starbucks did something similar.

Good evening, and good greebling. I'm Pól, and as a stuck-in-his-ways type, it took me forever to migrate here from CBR... I pretty much ditched the place and hung out almost exclusively on Facebook, but I'm gonna try and get used to posting in more then one place. Sheesh. Whadda imposition.
Anyway, I'm 43, a former teacher (I was terrible at it) and current comic store retailer. I started out watching Adam West, George Reeves, The Thunderbirds, The Superfriends, Space Ghost and co. as a kid, and just moved into comics because if I don't have something to read in front of me, I'm usually looking around for something to read. As a result, I have no idea what my first comic was. Most of my early comics were Australian Black-and-White DC reprints, and I was always a big fan of team titles (especially the JLA and LSH... ESPECIALLY especially if the JSA were in the picture!). These days, I'm not reading any DC titles because it's a buncha joyless crap.
I tend to go through periods of raging passion for one topic or another and right now I'm hung up on old movies where Mexican Masked Wrestlers pound the bejeezus out of monsters and mad scientists, and classic adventure fiction (currently reading some Arsene Lupin stories, though I usually have at least two books on the go at any one time).
I had the genuine pleasure to meet a buncha you guys in person - Kurt, Chris, Greg, Laura, Rob, Dino and probably at least one or two that I'm forgetting - earlier this year at the Emerald City Comicon, which was a gas. I'd love to try it again and not screw so much up, but I've gotta wait until I strike oil or find an abandoned gold mine or something.
Other than that, I hope to see you all around a bit more.

Glad to see you here, pol. Now, if you could just start using this as an avatar again, everything would be back to normal.
