I wrote a letter to Ditko recently and he replied. I put it with my Spider-man comics. Anything of interest he wrote that you can share?

Hi Everyone
In the good old days before 2014 and the reboot of the CBR forums I used to be a semi-regular hanger-on under the user names Grazzendeecee and the brilliantly original Graham Vingoe. Now 51, still resident in North Devon owner of 1 wife, 2 children, 2 dogs and owned by a cat.
I largely abandoned CBR Forums at the time of the great reboot when it became clear that all the regulars whose contributions I used to enjoy had fled the ship, and was very pleasantly surprised to find these Forums via Facebook and see that CEI-U, Dan, Shaksper and many more are all here and still actively discussing the classic comics.
As in the CBR days, My favourite comics are still the Classics- Master of Kung Fu, Cerebus, Killraven etc. and though I still read modern comics its more often than not the bronze Age and up to the mid-80s that really holds my interest. I still have a document listing all the scores and covers I got in the days of the Essential Guess the Classic Covers quizzes and may well be the only person in the entire world who has a spreadsheet detailing every daily puzzle on the Atlas Archives website since July 2008. I may not contribute on a daily basis but rest assured I'll read what I can, and enjoy what you guys put on this site.
Graham Vingoe

I wrote a letter to Ditko recently and he replied. I put it with my Spider-man comics. Anything of interest he wrote that you can share? Sure. I cannot remember what I wrote to him--I said Spider-man was my favorite character and I was introduced to the early stories in pocket book form in the late 70s and that they resonated with me especially when I got into high school and that I was looking at his Dr Strange and Warren stuff and that i liked how he drew expressions and body language. I said I included return postage but no reply required and thanks for reading..and he sent this letter (I hope its legible in the pic).

Does anyone here do handwriting analysis? Steve is a fascinating person.

Thanks for sharing kellyg that's very cool. In fact, that's probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen posted in this forum.

Thanks! I know others have had more impressive encounters with comics creators, but I was happy to get a letter especially when I didnt expect it. I like that he gave me an art and philosophy pep talk. I had been re-reading Spider-man comics and ones I hadn't seen before and learned his contribution was much more than just following someone else's instruction so I wanted to express my appreciation (especially as I missed not seeing his work on SM after issue #38).
Of course I wanted to ask him what he would have done with Mary Jane and other characters, but I didn't want to press my luck. haha
I also sent a letter to Ray Harryhausen years back and got a response from him so that's another keepsake for me.

I have more respect and admiration for Steve Ditko than any other living comics creator. He's a man who has stuck to his principles all these years ( I don't agree with all his principles but that's not the point). No other living creator has been screwed over financially as badly as him either. It's unbelievable that the billion dollars that Spider-Man has generated over the course of the years through all those muti media outlets and the riches accrued off it by certain folks and nary a penny for Steve Ditko. He dosen't make the issue public nor seek legal redress but I hope a few folks have some sleepless nights sleeping in their mansions when they think of the situation
Feel free to show us your Harryhausen letter as well. It's all historical goodies

The talktap app works with this site, but I personally prefer just using the site's default mobile view. If you want more control/options, you can also select "Desktop view" at the bottom. It isn't the ideal display size, but it gives you more to work with.

Most of the comics I'm reading at the moment are Marvels from 1982.

Hi, my name is Michael. Irish comic book fan, been reading mostly-Marvel all my life. Late 70s/early 80s my collection was mainly Marvel UK stuff and the occasional US comic (which were rare in my part of the world). I have particular love for Marvel UK's Rampage Monthly and Secret Wars II weekly. In 1986 I started ordering my US comics by mail order, and so was able to keep up with about ten titles a month, every month, for a few years. Over the 90s I read less and less, eventually nothing. But in the 90s I also discovered the excellence of DC's Vertigo line. Into the 00s and I picked up Essential Hulk #1 one day. Randomly. And I loved it. Picked up volume #2 soon after and loved that, too. They got me back into comics after a decade or so away. I picked up more and more of those Essentials and now have almost all that Marvel released. For the last 4 years or so I've been using the Complete Marvel Reading Order and I've read most of the company's output for the 70s. I've also reviewed each and every issue I've read and posted the reviews to my blog. I'd love to collect some of my reviews together, by creator run, and post them here - now that I've discovered this place. Looking forward to reading what people are posting about and getting involved in some classic comics discussion.
