Hi, my name is Michael. Irish comic book fan, been reading mostly-Marvel all my life. Late 70s/early 80s my collection was mainly Marvel UK stuff and the occasional US comic (which were rare in my part of the world). I have particular love for Marvel UK's Rampage Monthly and Secret Wars II weekly. In 1986 I started ordering my US comics by mail order, and so was able to keep up with about ten titles a month, every month, for a few years. Over the 90s I read less and less, eventually nothing. But in the 90s I also discovered the excellence of DC's Vertigo line. Into the 00s and I picked up Essential Hulk #1 one day. Randomly. And I loved it. Picked up volume #2 soon after and loved that, too. They got me back into comics after a decade or so away. I picked up more and more of those Essentials and now have almost all that Marvel released. For the last 4 years or so I've been doing the Complete Marvel Reading Order and I've read most of the company's output for the 70s. I've also reviewed each and every issue I've read and posted the reviews to my blog. I'd love to collect some of my reviews together, by creator run, and post them here - now that I've discovered this place. Looking forward to reading what people are posting about and getting involved in some classic comics discussion. Ha this is awesome, I recently used your site to marathon the whole Ultimate line earlier this year when I got Marvel Unlimited. Your reading orders are super useful, and I look forward to reading more from you here.

So glad to have you here! Well, I'm just a member of the CMRO site, I don't do any of the work there. I'm amazed by the ones that do, however. When I first found the site they were still in the 60s and I didn't make any use of it, and started reading old Marvels on my own. But by July 2013 they had passed me out and I was able to start using the lists to organise my daily reading. Great fun. I can honestly say I use the site every day. That and comicbook.db. Very useful, too. Especially for seeing creator runs on titles.

I have more respect and admiration for Steve Ditko than any other living comics creator. He's a man who has stuck to his principles all these years ( I don't agree with all his principles but that's not the point). No other living creator has been screwed over financially as badly as him either. It's unbelievable that the billion dollars that Spider-Man has generated over the course of the years through all those muti media outlets and the riches accrued off it by certain folks and nary a penny for Steve Ditko. He dosen't make the issue public nor seek legal redress but I hope a few folks have some sleepless nights sleeping in their mansions when they think of the situation Feel free to show us your Harryhausen letter as well. It's all historical goodies Yeah it's quite something given his contribution to the character. Spider-man is I think the most visually distinct and important superhero character of the 1960s. I read that in the 80s when he was back at Marvel he had two conditions-that he never draw Spider-man or Dr Strange again and when doing a ROM issue which mentioned a page full of famous characters to be drawn including Spider-man he wrote in the margin "Oh, really?" Supposedly Stan Lee approached him to write a special Spider-man issue and offered him a huge sum of money but he declined. I imagine he could easily get a lot of media attention if he wanted to. I will look for that RH letter. It was typed, he said that just as I had been inspired by his work, he had been inspired by various people (Gustave Dore, John Martin) and that "persistence was the name of the game." And he included a picture of himself with a skeleton.

Steve here. I found out about this place by accident on Facebook. I think I'm home as I don't have anyone in my life to discuss old comics with.

Like you, I frequent this place because none of my friends are interested in old comics -- at least, not in quite the same way I am. I'm sure we're not alone in that.

I don't have anyone in my life to discuss old comics with. Same as that. Anyone I know who reads comics, only reads the newer stuff. So I have a couple of online groups where I go to chat about this stuff. Great fun. Welcome!
