On the subject of Marvel Unlimited, I'm finding that the high quality scan and vibrant colors are much easier to read than my DVD ROM's from GIT. The sites still a tad buggy, but you really can't beat all those comics for a paltry sum a month. I've become a bit frustrated on the Marvel Masterwork's line since the soft-covers keep going in and out of print, so I'm going to stick with this for awhile for the Silver Age stuff and just focus on specific creator collections for the later stuff I think.

For those looking for one of the big 2 to make a move to make a cheap accessible outreach program to capture readers via digital and/or print, Marvel has launched such a move-I detailed it here... Wal Mart exclusive trades w/free digital codes-M

I signed back up for this after you mentioned it along with comicbookdb yesterday and it really is the best thing. I've said it before, but I wish DC would follow suit.

I tried it when it first started around 2007 and they've added a ton of stuff since. There used to be huge gaps in even some of the major series (like Incredible Hulk) but now most of the iconic series are complete. (There used to be a huge gap between #181 and the start of Peter David's run, but now they have ever issue at least till the end of the Pak run.) When I get around to it, I want to try some of the newer stuff that I never would have bought individually. (It's my understanding that there is only a six month delay with the new stuff.) After I read the Silver Age, I'm going to focus on creators. I'd love to read the Bronze Age but I just don't think it's feasible, at least chronologically.

I tried Marvel Unlimited using the 99c promotion they ran for July/August, and was a bit disappointed. A lot of it probably has to do with the fact that I own a Kindle Fire HD. There isn't a Marvel Unlimited app available on the Kindle store, and when I tried to sideload the Android version it failed to run. I tried tracking down an older version that did run, but I was less than impressed by the reading experience. It was disappointing too, because I was considering ditching all of my Marvel books for a MU subscription, figuring that I could keep up with most current comics with a roughly six-month lag. If there was an arc or run that I particularly enjoyed, I could buy the collected edition and it would still be cheaper than if I had bought all those books as floppies.

Yeah, seems it would really be in their best interest to make the Marvel Unlimited user friendly.

It still has a lot of kinks to be worked out. It took me a while before I realized that you could add issues in a series from your library without having to go into the main series profiles. Also, I almost always have to reload a comic when opening it. I do like their reader, but I wish it scrolled faster. The issue information doesn't work for me on any comic I've read and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my adblocker and pop-up blockers. (I'm signed in as a paid subscriber and its ridiculous that I'd see ads anyway.)
I read on a laptop, but overall I like the experience. I think Dark Horse has the best reader, in terms of the official readers. It's similar to Marvel's but it's as fast as Comixology. The thing that bugs me with Comixology's reader is that I like to read single page and full screen, but not at full page width. Their program allows you to zoom out, but it resets every time you change pages. What I have to do to size it like I want is to resize my whole browser. Not that big a deal, but the Marvel and Dark Horse programs both have this feature.

It seems that both Plastic Man from Quality and Captain Marvel from Fawcett are legal to download digitally. I've known about The Digital Comic Museum (digitalcomicmuseum.com) for awhile, but was surprised when I found those characters on there. Obviously DC owns these characters now and I'm assuming this has something to do with them originating with defunct companies or perhaps being created outside the work-for-hire agreements of the day.

Not that big a deal, but the Marvel and Dark Horse programs both have this feature. I'd say I get a "missing issue" screen or it just quits loading about 60% of the time when I'm reading on my Mac with Safari. Granted I've used the app a lot less, but on my Galaxy Note 3 I never get errors (knock on wood) and the search function is much easier. Take Black Widow, for example. If I got to browse by character and click on her icon none of her series show up at all, and if I type Black Widow into the search the first Black Widow series that shows up is Widow Maker (the Hawkeye team-up mini) and there are TWENTY books listed before that, and then many more before you get to the first appearance of a solo series. On my phone, I type Black Widow and it lists all her series in a nice list. I still don't know how to add an entire series, instead of individual issues, on either platform. I feel like the browser-based stuff is deliberately wonky in an attempt to combat piracy (since it'd be easier to do so on a computer), since they also don't seem to allow offline reading on computer. Also, for whatever reason the fourth issue of the 2010 Black Widow series is missing.

That could be the case. My reading experience is fine once it loads(I read on laptop running Windows 8 using Google Chrome). It usually takes two or three tries for me to get the reader to load. I've also noticed a few dead links in the search feature.
The search feature does need work. I don't think it's possible to add complete series. The easiest way to do this, that I can see, is to use "Browse My Must Reads by Series" in your library and click each issue. I'm reading chronological starting in the Silver Age, so I just add each issue as I go alone.

I'm just sticking with my phone for now. It's surprisingly easy to read and being able to read 12 comics offline is a plus. I do dislike that I have to select to put the comic in my offline reading list and then download it. It also seems to disable the landacape view feature offline, but zoom is a suitable substitute.
There are two big features I'd like, assuming I haven't missed them. The first is sorting chronologically/reverse. I'm trying to read through all of Black Widow's recent solo stuff (and Widow Maker) and they appear to be listed randomly (outisde of keeping series together). The second is to have issues automatically removed from my library when I finish them. Both would help for offline reading as scrolling across the list often results in the wrong issue popping up and then backing out of that puts you back at the beginning of the list.
Overall though, a great service, and it's really getting me interested in Comixology and Dark Horse digital. Just wish Comixology would take Google Pay or Amazon gift cards.

Dark Horse has some great deals. Just yesterday I broke down and bought ALL of the Sin City trades (digital versions) on their site for $30 bucks. I was thinking about getting the TPB's, but for that price? I couldn't pass it up. You get all 7 volumes and The Art of Sin City for that price.

I have Comixology on my tablet and the comics look great. Is Marvel unlimited is a different app from Comixology ? Do I have to download that as well ?
