I have a theory that younger readers prefer team titles (JLA/X-Men/etc) & older readers prefer solo titles. Thoughts?
I noticed this when I worked in a comic book store. I felt younger readers had less money to spend so they gravitated to team books since they gave them more heroes to read. Also the solo books tended to delve into the personal lives of the heroes more which I felt older readers related to more.

Not really sure about that. Admittedly, I always loved team books as a kid (the Avengers, Defenders, Freedom Fighters, JLA and JSA being the favourites). But then, I still do...

Right Now, I kind of liking the DYNAMIC COMICS of Lady Zorro and Lady Rawhide and The Shadow and Green Hornet Dark Knights better because they are my favorite books because of the interaction of two characters in a single issue. And, I also like Batman 66 meets the Green Hornet in DC Comics another favorite of mine involving two characters together.
I'm staying away from Team Books because they don't do anything for me these days and Solo Titles kind of bore me because I lost interest in Batmite, Martian Manhunter, and others that I pull on the monthly basis.

I still prefer team titles. I can get bored with most solo titles. I don't think I need to read another Batman, Superman or Spider-Man story in my life. I don't dislike these characters (though I always liked the concept of Superman far more than any execution of the idea.), but I think I got the point by now.

Now that I am older I still like team titles, but mostly the old school titles like Uncanny X-Men, FF, Avengers, JLA, New Teen Titans...PRE-CONVOLUTED ERA!! 60's, 70's & early to mid 80's works best for me.

Never asked myself the question, and now that I do, thank you md62, I can't say I care more one way or the other. I just don't see how one concept would objectivily be superior to another, it's just about the writing, isn't it?

I think you may be right as a sweeping generalisation. Certainly when I was a kid, most of my friends preferred the likes of JLA, X-Men or Avengers. However, I was always a solo super-hero fan myself and I still am really. I'd much rather read about Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Batman or Daredevil than read about the Avengers or JLA. Not that I dislike those titles, but they don't grab me like the solo heroes do.

I can't say I've ever noticed a preference either as a child or now.

That's true for me. (Although I've ALWAYS preferred team-up books.)

I suppose the thrill of seeing your heroes coming together is even more poignant as a kid, plus - with the limited funds of childhood - JL, Avengers, Defenders and the like are a handy way to stretch an allowance and come home with Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Hulk, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Flash, a Green Lantern or 2, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, Giant Man, Cyborg, Starfire, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Speedy, Aqualad, Raven, Beast Boy, Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, Namor, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Black Panther, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Firestorm, Zatanna, Red Tornado, Atom, Hawkman, Hawkwoman and more when you could only afford 3 or 4 or 5 books. Still, it's nothing I've noticed to any great extent.

I preferred solo as a kid, namely Spider-Man, Iron Man and Cap. Teams seemed too much to handle and to this day, I find teams a bit all over the place at times. I like the solo fighter but I can see how teams would allure kids today. With the movies, they want it all and a lot of kids want more more MORE so a comic with everyone of their favourite heroes seems likely to sell better than a comic with just one.

I liked both as a kid. Now I find it much harder to read team books. They tend to make my suspension of disbelief that much more difficult.

I find the two aren't that different. Solo books often have an extensive supporting cast that functions very much like a team.

This is such an interesting question. You should have made a poll with it. To me it's all about the cast. I enjoyed the Avengers best when the characters interacted with each other and it included parts of their personal lives. I liked Iron Man and Spider-man when their supporting casts were strong as well. This is why I really don't like the Avengers of today, it seems like a cattle call of costumes and no personal stuff. It's just " lets beat up on the villains".

Yes, as a kid I tended to gravitate toward team titles for exactly the economic reasons cited by others (team-up titles, too, and 25-centers like Marvel Tales) but I always made sure I had enough to buy the latest issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, Iron Man and Thor. These days it's the quality of the writing and art that matter to me, not the quantity of heroes in a given issue.
Cei-U! I summon the summation!
