I've slowed WAY down on buying Mego's, because...I don't really have room for them and I kind of burnt out. The last ones I bought were the Deadman, Dr. Fate and Two-Face in the 50th Anniversary run as those were absolutely ones I'd have coveted as a kid. I probably will pick up Red Tornado if I ever find it discounted. But now there's been an announcement of one I absolutely will have to have. This would have been a must buy for me as a kid. It also appears that Hawkman and Martian Manhunter will likely be in Wave 19. Not 100% musts, but very likely I'll get them also.

That Dr. Fate wave was the last one released, and I still haven't seen it at retail in the wild (and it looks like Walmart is not continuing their deal with Mego to carry them as many stores have removed the pegs for Mego and given them to NECA and other companies doing collectible figures). As I've said elsewhere, I get little to no joy or satisfaction ordering toys through mail order/internet, so I haven't bought any of the most recent wave of Megos (the money is going to Super Powers instead since I can find them in stores in person). I'd love to get Spectre, Hawkman and Martian Manhunter (and Dr. Fate, Two Face Nightwing and Deadman, but I haven't since they don't seem to be available anywhere except by mail order anymore and my desire for them is not enough to overcome my dislike for having to resort to mail order. Not to mention Green Arrow form previous waves being underproduced and never seeing shelves and going for stupid prices now). I was excited to hear Mego got the Marvel license and was going to do 50th Anniversary style Marvel figures-it's been over a year since the announcement without another word about potential release dates, what figures might be produced, prototypes etc. How many years is the 50th anniversary going to cover. 1972 was the release and 2022 the 50th anniversary. It's currently halfway through 2024, and there's no way we'll see Marvel before 2025 at the earliest, more likely 2026 at the rate their going. I was big on supporting the return of Mego when they first came back, and I still love the figures, but I think they took on more than they could handle and have kind of screwed the pooch with their path to market because of it. Their claims of "we want to be a toy company with our product for sale in toy and brick & mortar retailers everywhere not one that produces niche figures through the internet to those who pre-order" that they were touting at their relaunch seems to have gone by the wayside, because that's exactly what they have become. -M

Super Powers came out way after I had stopped doing the toy thing so I have ZERO nostalgia for them. As to buying in the wild, there's zero chance that would ever happen for me. The closest Walmart that carries Megos is a forty minute drive. And since it's in a super small market they get what the little puppy dog left behind...and not much of that. And I'd have to buy from Walmart, which is anathema to me. So if I want it, it's going to be shopping online.

I really wish Mego would embrace doing giftsets. For folks like me who are a few years younger than Slam_Bradley and only have a handful of figures this size, it's easier to dive in to a set of related figures as opposed to picking up a random one in the wild: The Justice Society of America, the Trek Next Gen Bridge Crew, The Classic Avengers, etc. I'm always tempted by mego, and I know this would put me over the edge.

Something that seems like one of those "needless cash grabs" is both Playmates and NECA doing figures based on the original sketch designs for the Turtles I mean, don't get me wrong, they are neat. But I don't really see who the target audience is for this

And I can't talk much, I myself have been lusting after this Universal Monster Crossover that has Leo as The Creature From The Black Lagoon

The other really cool looking figure announced at SDCC was the McFarlane Gold Label 2 pack of Jonah Hex complete with a horse... The $69.99 msrp means I am out for it, but it is a really cool looking figure. -M

Shared on X: I had no idea there had been a Wonder Woman car and Spider-Man motorcycle.

As part of the reset we're doing in the basement game room and upstairs attic space that was formerly a game room, I am redoing how I display some of our stuff. I have repurposed our greeting card spinner rack (a rack we got at an estate sale of a card/stationary store whose owner passed and they were selling off the store inventory and fixtures, and Mrs. MRP's aunt was running the estate sale (she used to have a side business doing estate sales before she retired). The rack had formerly displayed comics (mostly mag sized), and most recently TTRPG stuff, but I wanted to lighten its load a bit, so decided to use it to display some toys, mostly Megos and Super Powers. Here's what it looks like-there's a little room to grow, and some things may come off it if I need more space if I get more Megos/Super Powers, and are mostly placeholders right now. There are 4 sides of the spinner rack... Side 1 Side 2 Side 3 and Side 4 Closer looks at each side will follow... -M

Closer look at the stuff on Side 1... There's a lot of the 50 Anniversary Megos I have missed, that I would pick up if I saw them in the wild at the right place, and stuff from upcoming waves I want, so there's room to add some. The Jose Garcia Lopez variants are essentially "seat fillers" to keep rows form looking empty until I get something for those shelves. I'll eventually find a place to put those variants on the wall in a frame or showcase, but am in no hurry for now. -M

A closer look at side 2's contents... this side is almost all seat fillers right now... I missed out on the New Frontier action figures in the Darwyn Cooke style, but grabbed these New Frontier Bendies when I saw them in a Five Below several years back Supes and Bats have cloth capes, which is a nice touch. I'm not sure if more than these 4 were made. I have a Superman in different packaging that just presents as the Golden Age Spuerman and a slightly different Wonder Woman (paint job is different) in different packaging as well, but they are essentially the same Bendies. I remember having a few of these type of Bendies as a kid (I think a mix of DC and Marvel, I remember Bats and Spidey), but they didn't last long to any type of hard play as the wire would poke through on the limbs if you bent them too much or too often. These will stay in the packaging. And more Garcia-Lopez variants (I have Shazam and Wonder Woman covers too but they are not on the rack). -M

Side 3 contents... Some Super Powers here... The bubble on Supes is trashed, if I found another on card, I would open this one. And some of the initial DC releases from Mego. I don't really like the packaging on these, and I am considering opening them and displaying them that way. I didn't notice until recently the scuffing with color bleed on Flash's boot. That's a QC issue at the factory. -M
