The first arc from Todd McFarlane's adjectiveless Spider-Man book.
Yes, it's bad, I know. And yes, nostalgia is definitely at play here. But here's why I consider it a guilty pleasure. First of all, McFarlane's rendering of Spider-Man is the one I grew up on. He was on the main Spidey book as I was getting into comics. And while I wouldn't say his artwork on Spidey has aged well, there's a part of me that will always have a certain fondness for it, even as I've seen more of its flaws as I gotten older and tastes have changed.
Secondly, as a kid, it was hard for me to buy comics on a regular basis. I would pick them up here and there as opportunities arose. And since this was back in the newsstand distribution days, I was at the mercy of whatever was available. So there were a lot of holes in my collection, and I was always out of the loop regarding continuity. I still read the stories, but I often found myself wondering what the heck was going on whenever I came across a continuity driven plot point. McFarlane's solo Spidey was one of the first books I started following from issue #1, and it was designed to be relatively continuity-free, so I felt like I was getting a complete story from the ground floor.
Thirdly, it's a guilty pleasure because, unlike McFarlane's run on Amazing Spider-Mah, which was competently written by David Michelinie, McFarlane's writing was A-W-F-U-L. But I didn't think so when I was 12.

I don't think you guys get the concept of a guilty pleasure. Cei-U! Marvels? Really??? Yeah... I meant BAD comics that you like, or comic runs not well regarded by history. Not classics and not prose novels.

I have another run that is considered drek of the 90's- Fantastic four from about #358 to Reed Richards return ending in #413. Defalco and Ryan did a nice job IMHO.

For me, it's the super-hero era Blackhawks (#228-241). Utterly brain-dead "camp" stories and ludicrous names/costumes, a complete violation of everything the series once was, and yet I love 'em. Cei-U! I summon Dr. Hands and The vListener! This is the first thing that comes to mind for me with Blackhawk bacause of the reprints I read as a kid. Then its the fantastic Spiegle issues in the 80s.

I'm just embarking on a clonathon (clonevoyage ) starting today, awash with 90's goodness.

My Guilty Pleasure Reading isMARVELS 1994 I usually read the full 5 books in a lazy afternoon and after reading it - I'm overwhelmed of the art, the story, the 3rd book featuring Galactus was out of this world! How can Marvels be a guilty pleasure. It's pretty universally revered as an all-time great, isn't it? Myself, I don't really believe in the notion of guilty pleasures with anything. I'm arrogant enough to think that if I like it, then it must be good. And if the rest of the world thinks it sucks, then they're wrong and I, alone, am right. That said, I love the "Sins Past" storyline from Micheal J. Strazynski's Amazing Spider-Man and most people I meet online think it's just the worst. They, however, are wrong.

Oh I take it back then. There were some good parts. The covers were great! (If only we could do something about the stuff in between the covers.....) And at least it wasn't thoroughly unpleasant torture porn like some other books mentioned in this thread.

Well Sins Past and 8 foot tall giant green rabbits both would qualify (especially is accompanied by a giant quill shooting porcupine looking alien!) -M

I'm with CW... I don't generally read things over and over.. there's too much I haven't read once yet that I want to read. Not that I never re-read stuff (I certainly do), but not as much as some do. If I was going to pick something I have fond memories over that most people don't, I'd say Force Works... looking back, the art is terrible, and it did lead into the crossing, but the first bit, back when they were billing it as an Iron Man group of Title I really liked. Then, of course, is the man in my sig.. he doesn't get alot of critical acclaim

70's Shazam. Atlas Comics titles. Batman & Capt America books even when they were terrible. Star Trek (Gold Key/DC/Marvel). Tarzan (from any publisher).
